So yeah. Sarah Palin is a scary broad. To think that she could be a heartbeat away from the presidency... *Shudder*
What I don't understand is how the GOP could honestly think that Sarah Palin would attract the Hillary supporters. I mean, she is the antithesis of Hillary on pretty much any issue (abortion rights, birth control, environmental issues such as global warming, Big Oil, etc.). Do they really think that women are just mindless drones that will vote for anything with a vagina?
She comes off as smug, self-righteous, obnoxious, and defensive, and has from day one. She's fairly uneducated (for someone who could hypothetically be the leader of our country) and has ZERO real foreign policy experience. Those assholes claiming that she has foreign policy experience because she lives near Russia need to immediately seek mental help.
She's hidden stuff, like her unwedded teenage daughter's pregnancy, since day one. I'm not saying I have a problem with her daughter's pregnancy, btw, but that she wasn't completely forthcoming from the beginning. And her stance on women's reproductive rights is terrifying. Personally, I don't think I could ever get an abortion, but I don't think that the choice should be taken away from every woman in this country because of the religious views of the people running the country.
From what I have read thus far about her track record in Alaska, she is so often absent from legislative proceedings that people in the state legislature started wearing "Where's Sarah?" buttons. She came in and fired many people who didn't "agree" with her, and replaced them with less-qualified substitutes who were friends of hers from high school or who she knew for a long time. She informed her staff not to talk to the press. Much of what you do read about her tenure as governor in Alaska (and also as mayor of Wasilla) from those who live in Alaska is negative, or neutral, with a negative slant.
Her forcefulness and snotty attitude frankly make me so disgusted that I honestly hope they find out some fucked up shit about her so that the black cloud will prevent McCain from being elected. With all the crap coming out about her, it can't be too long before they find out something that pushes the limit too far.
You know, until McCain tapped Palin for VP, I had some respect for him. I would not have voted for him, but I felt that he did care about our country and that he had a good heart, despite the fact that he was a politician. How naive of me. Now I realize that he is just a puppet for the GOP and the religious right, who he wants so badly to get to like him. His choice in Sarah Palin for VP is the only kind of executive decision I need to see to know that it would certainly be just as bad, if not a hundred times worse, if he were elected.
Here's to November, and hoping that America makes the right choice.
