Yes, I don't know why it took me this long to realize it. Peter Jackson made these movies for ME. He wanted me to be able to see Middle Earth before I died. He wanted to make me cry. He wanted to take all my money, and have me only wish I could give him more. He wanted to show me elves as I had never even dared to dream them, and the Samwise Gamgee who has lived in my heart for 29 years.
To Peter, and the other 8700 people who made these movies for me, I offer my very deep gratitude.
And for the rest of you, you're very welcome to watch my movies, too!
What I don't understand, actually, is how anybody can say that these movies -- and Return of the King in particular -- aren't the best movies ever made. HOW can that be your answer? HOW can your taste be so different from mine that any other film is even in the running? What can possibly compare?
