The last post I made in this old haunt of mine was in 2020 when I was just about to dive into a nostalgic orgy of Harry Potter reading and posting, but Ms. Rowling short-circuited that by unveiling her commitment to, what shall I call it? . . .the backlash against trans rights activism? . . .sternly patrolling

Replying to this a month later (I'm rarely on LJ anymore, and happened to feel nostalgic for old fandom today).

- I'm with you on being sad that fic archives like the Quill are gone. Especially as a lot of people won't have been able to save their fics. I also kind of wish at least one of those sites had stayed around. I go to another forum that's been around since 1996, although to be fair, it's barely active these days. I'm not even that active. But I can still go and "hang out" with old friends from time to time, in a way I can't with SQ.

- I know what you mean about being unsure as to whether or not you'd still be interested in HP. I haven't tried to re-read the series since, though the books are still on my shelf. My feelings are so complicated. The books were such a huge part of my life for a long time,.

. As far as Fantastic Beasts goes, I read something around the time the movies were being written that suggested JKR did exactly that, went in and took over. Of course, at the time I was Team Jo and all that, so I saw it as this crafty, badass move, taking her works back from the evil movie studio. (I was also in my twenties and well, I was being in my twenties. LOL.) But I also assumed the movies would be good. The first one was okay, and I really didn't like the second one. Didn't see the last two. In any case, I have a vague recollection of JKR outright saying something along the lines of "the studios approached me, and I decided to do it myself."
