So I'm about five minutes in and it's as slashy as the promos promised. On one hand, lolol, it's like USA Network is like, oh fuck it, we'll slash it FOR you. But on the other hand... there's something inherently homophobic in playing up the slashiness but constantly pull a NO HOMO right afterwards. Because these guys are never ever ever in a million years ever hook up for real on the show. They'll tease and tease and play the joke, but it ain't happening. They'll have lots and lots of sex with ladies to let us know that they're REALLY REALLY HETEROSEXUAL SO VERY VERY HETEROSEXUAL. And it all kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The only way they can make me feel better about this arrangement is if they actually have the balls to play it up like a UST thing on every other male/female lead show. Your old school classics like Remington Steele and Moonlighting. X-Files and Bones would be the more recent examples. I know YMMV for the romance on those shows (I do fucking HATE Brennan/Booth after all), but my point is it'd be nice to see a UST thing between two male leads. Except I doubt that's where this show is going, which is a disappointment.
ETA: I finished the pilot and I really enjoyed it. I can see myself getting into this show, and I'm totally going to read the fuck out of the no doubt plentiful slash fics. But the NO HOMO thing is still gonna aggravate me though. Sigh.
