14 - Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I've written my fair share of PWPs, and in a lot of ways, I'm pretty done with writing explicit sex scenes. The mechanics of it bore and frustrate me to write. I admire people who can do it right and do it hot, but I rarely read flat out porn these days either. Like with the angst, I had my fill of it, and now I want something else. It started out almost like a principle of the matter deal, because I was getting really sick of how all sex scenes had to be penetrative. It was like either no other form of sex exists, or penetrative sex is the only kind that really really matters. So I actively avoided writing penetrative sex, then I was writing, like, no sex at all, except the really vague kind, and now I'm at that place where I'm not rabble rabble principle of the matter about it anymore (probably because I'm not in wrestlefandom anymore where ALL SEX IS BUTTSEX and badly written sex on top of that), but I'm still reluctant to write it. My logic is that there has never been a fic ruined by lack of sex and there have been plenty of fics ruined by a bad sex scene (or two or three). I'd rather err on the side of the former rather than the latter.
15 - Warnings - What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
Anytime I write anything higher than PG-13, I always list out the major reasons why I rated it so high, which I suppose functions as a warning. I try to stick to the standard list. People still argue about it, but I find there's a pretty good consensus on the basics. Rape, misogyny, torture, etc. I like to list out how explicit the sexual content gets. I also list "violence" but I always hate it a little bit, because it's so vague, but I don't want to be too specific, and how do you get specific anyway? I always get a flash of Twister getting its PG-13 for "intense depiction of weather."
I once warned for "morally questionable use of poetry" for a fic I never finished. I'll leave that one to be figured out. :D
