Day 24 - Best quote

"Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are."
-- Whistler, "Becoming: Part I," Buffy The Vampire Slayer

THE quote, in a lot of ways, one that hit on my narrative kink and guided my writing for a long time. One of the biggest tests of character (fictionally or otherwise) is how you deal with getting pushed against the wall, to the limits (the other being what one does while no one is looking). So yeah, totally obsessed with this idea.

"It's not what you expect. It's what you hope for."
- John Crichton, "A Constellation of Doubt," Farscape

This one hit me SO far when Crichton said it, because it's like my life. You expect the worst, but you hope for the best, and usually that's what kills you.

"Suffering doesn't make you a hero."
- Jim Sterling, "The Two Horse Job," Leverage

Within the context of the show, DAYUM, what a zinger of a line to hurl at Nate. It's an awesome skewer of the hero trope. It's also awesome in that it's a truism. We all would like to think suffering makes us noble somehow, but really, it doesn't.

"The only reason you're still conscious is because I don't want to carry you."
- Jack Bauer, Day 5, 24

Sure, I could've chosen many a thematically awesome quote, but this one... this one never fails to make me cackle. :D

"Your best method of pleasing a woman is the warm, beating heart of an enemy. Oh, women say they don't like it, but they do! Makes them wet as October!"
- Titus Pullo, "An Owl in a Thornbush," Rome

Truer words have never been spoken, my friends.
