I can't believe I'm saying this, but fuck no to Angelina for Catwoman in Batman 3. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that they'll make a third one considering how much TDK killed at the box office.
I'd rather have Harvey as the full blown villain in the third one. Because it'd be, you know, CONTINUITY. Quantum of Solace is gonna have James Bond deal with the aftermath of Vesper, so I'd really appreciate it if they'd do that for Harvey in the third one. I'd feel INCREDIBLY cheated if they gloss over it and move onto some kind of villain of the week deal. Granted, I do feel Harvey's rise and fall has been told. He is the Tragic Hero, and Tragic Heroes die at the end, but
yesdrizella points out very smartly that Harvey's story is over, yes, but Two-Face's story has just begun. There is massive ramification, and again, yeah, major appointment if they drop all the themes they've set up in TDK.
Which isn't to say I'd mind Catwoman showing up. But I hope they do it in a thematically sound manner, which... I don't know. Catwoman doesn't fit, which is the problem. And back to Angie, I wouldn't want her to play Catwoman either. Heath has raised the bar. He was the Joker. He wasn't Heath playing the Joker. Angelina is always going to be Angelina playing a character. She can't disappear. There's the rumored Megan Fox, who is, well, a stone cold fox, but she can't act.
yesdrizella suggested Rosario Dawson, which... well. The first major thing I saw her in is Sin City, and she is certainly sexpot domme, and yet the lingering image of her in my head is Grindhouse, sweet girl next door type, which doesn't jive as Catwoman.
When it comes to recasting Joker, I hope they don't. I certainly don't think Heath is the be all and end all for the role, but at the same time, it's wank bait and too soon. Who the fuck is gonna follow that performance? And it doesn't matter how good the next person is, they'll get compared to Heath, and you can't trump a dead guy who's got all this mystique surrounding him about how he lost his life to this role (which apparently isn't true, but everybody thinks it anyway).
Ultimately, I want Harvey. I want Two-Face. I want Batman and Gordon to deal with the fallen White Knight of Gotham. As wonderful as the idea of Batman taking the rap so that Harvey remains a pristine icon, the point is that nothing stays untarnished in this world. There will never be a Gotham that doesn't need Batman. But the point is that he keeps trying. It's hard to be a decent man in an indecent world, and some, like Harvey, falls. But you keep trying. You just keep trying. It'd be nice if they banged on that theme in the third one.
