Fall TV. Oh man.
Canned
Journeyman (NBC)
Officially dead. STILL BITTER. On one hand, it will live on in forever perfection with shows like Profit. It can't degenerate, can't stay beyond its welcome. It told a good story, almost like a mini-series, a conclusion that felt incredible but not 100% resolved. So there's that. Then there's the fact that it got canned. BITTER BITTER BITTER. I can't believe they put Bionic Woman out on DVD before Journeyman. Ask me how I really feel.
New Amsterdam (FOX)
Oh, the show this could've been, but I was neither surprised nor angered by its cancellation. Honestly, it's not a show that deserves renewal, which is a harsh thing for me to say, but it blew so many opportunities. I will miss you, Danish Guy.
Under Consideration
The Mentalist (CBS)
Purely because of Simon Baker. I don't actually anticipate this show to be good or to last. But, yes, Simon Baker.
Dollhouse (FOX)
Mostly because of Helo. I mean, Tahmoh Penikett. Well, actually, I don't know if I'd like him as anything other than Helo, because I love Helo. But he plays a federal agent, and you all know my hard-on for federal agents. Also, I'm watching this for the lulz. Again with the bitchiness, but I kinda wanna see how quickly it gets canned. As the joke goes, all Joss needs is Nathan Fillion. I've been the preview btw. It's not particular inspiring, especially in these post-disillusionment over Joss days. More and more, I'm grossed out by his increasingly obvious fetish over the petite kickass girl type. He's getting to be Tarantino with the feet shots.
On the Chopping Block
Heroes (NBC)
Talk about fucking up a good thing. I've bitched long and hard over Heroes S2, so there's no need to rehash my vitriol. I want to believe Pasdar who says that they'll finally maybe get things right this time, but trust, once broken, can never be fully regained.
Dropped Like a Hot Potato
Bones (FOX)
Boy am I glad I stopped watching midway through S3. I LOVED S1 and S2 for a variety of reasons. Then S3 started on the Gormagon thing and the Larry Sweets thing, and cue my waning interest. What did I just bitched about regarding TV shows and mytharcs? THEY DON'T FUCKING WORK. After reading what I did about what happened in the S3 finale? Oh yeah. I'm sticking to the precious memories of good times. I didn't think Bones was gonna jump the shark this soon.
Grabby Hands TV
24 (FOX)
C'mon. It's motherfucking 24. Even if the preview feels a little bit like Die Hard 2, I don't care. Because holy shit. If you know what I mean. af;ldjsafkldsal;fkdjklafjd;lajfdlka.
Criminal Minds (CBS)
The best show you're not watching. Though that omg explosion cliffhanger left me fairly eh. Eight years later, and I'm still bitter over The Pretender using it twice as a season ending cliffhanger. "Oh noes who got blown up???" is weaksauce in my book, so I'm kinda eh at CM doing it, but I have faith in them, because they proved me wrong with the drug-use storyline.
Pushing Daisies (ABC)
yesdrizella introduced me to this show while she was up here. The moment Lee Pace opened his mouth, I was sold, because goddamn what a hot voice. But hotness will only carry you so far (well, okay, really really far when it comes to me). The rest of the show is Made of Win though. I'm a sucker for witty snappy dialogue, and PD has it in spades. I'm really glad it's gonna be on at 8pm on Wednesday, because then it wouldn't clash with CM.
Supernatural (CW)
Wanktastic, yes. Devoid of nutritional content, yes. Chock full of useless mytharc that will inevitably be made of fail, yes yes yes. But I still love this show. Also: pretty.
Medium (NBC)
The other best show that you're not watching. Much like CM, it is consistently good, with the strong female characters that fandom loves to say doesn't exist on network television. I guess since Patricia Arquette is blonde and blue-eyed (though she is very full-figured and deliciously so), she doesn't really count. *COFF* Sorry, am I showing my bitterness? ANYWAY. For a show that waned in S3, in ratings and in storytelling, they did something amazing and shook things up and followed the fuck through. And sorry to slip back into Gender Politics 101, but the fact that a middle-aged working mom who actually looks the part, with three kids and two mortgages, can pwn your ass without actually literally kicking it is far more amazing and progressive than super sexy svelte spychick kicking the crap out of men. Ahem.
Dexter (Showtime)
Only at the bottom because I'm saving the best for last. If network shows can even aspire to be half as good as Dexter. Proof, as always, that nobody needs more than 12 episodes to tell a good story. Hell, proof that life doesn't suck after all, not when you have Michael C. Hall pwning the entire universe with his awesome.
Sorta Grabby Hands-ish TV
Dirty Sexy Money (ABC)
Loved what I've seen of it so far, though I still haven't seen the last ep aired before the strike. It's awesome guilty pleasure TV, and as I've said before, it embraces what it is. Sometimes that's all you can ask for.
Burn Notice (USA)
Like DSM, for some reason, I still haven't seen the last episode of S1 either. It's a great show that also embraces what it is, and you can never go wrong with Bruce Campbell. Jeffrey Donovan is perfect. Gabrielle Anwar, though. Sigh.
The Tudors (Showtime)
Eh, I think it's actually airing right now, isn't it? Gonna knock it back like a shot once the season is over. More politics, less sex, plz.
I honestly don't know where I find the time to watch all these shows. Well, considering I don't seem to be doing any writing anymore probably helps. But that's an entirely different post.
