If you haven't guessed by now, I do not enjoy V-day, and it isn't due to the fact that I’m single (contrary to popular opinion). It's due to the presser that society places upon us to validate our self-worth by being in a relationship. The basic principle of Valentines Day is to capitalize on both single people (by rubbing the fact that they are single in their faces, thus lowering their self esteem which in affect leads them to consume products in an effort to make themselves feel better) and people in relationships (having them purchase mass quantities of gifts to supposedly kindle romance). This holiday is a piece of commercialized bull crap. Or maybe I’m just being bitter because Valentines Day brings up the fact that I’ve never been in a relationship… Now I’m feeling angsty. I’m off to quest for comfort food.
