First Week

Sep 09, 2005 01:32

It's almost been a week since I got to NYC and this is already the best year yet!
The first weekend Jo and I had Halo marathon from 7pm to 5:30am Sunday to monday and then I crashed in Teylor's unoccupied bed.
We woke up to Teylor's coming home at about 10 am and somehow stayed up the rest of the day... to play more video games.
We also hung out with Ali and went to Barnes and Noble for a couple hours just to get outside... we apparently need to see the sun at some point in time... the 4 vg consoles in Teylor and Jo's roon disagree.

The first week of classes has been great and I love all of my teachers. We're finally diving into what we want to be doing for the rest of our lives. We spent most of Storytelling this evening reading comic books... so amazing, I got to look at real pencils (well photocopies) from current issues. My teacher is the fricking Senior Editor at DC... it's unreal! The only change I'm making to my schedual is my drawing teacher because as hard as Woodruff's class is I need the education of a cartoonist and that's what Phil-boy has that Tom doesn't. Perhaps I should have listened to him all last year when he told me I shouldn't register for his class...

Tonight I was outside the 23rd st building talking to some friends and Matt Madden, my inking teacher comes up behind me to say hi and talk about Cartoonist Alliance stuffs. I have teacher recognition in my sophmore year... this fucking rocks! I feel so like, "why are you talking to me like a peer?" It's so odd but cool. And for those of you that have been wondering, yes my head no longer fits in my cowboy hat or out through my room doorway, even.

Other happenings this week:
-Michele got her dorm room
-I proved you can sleep in and be late for a 12pm class
-I am a official sometimes roommate
-Tina, Jo and Teylor's roomate's name rhymes with mine
-Chicken and Soy Vey is orgasmically good
-Telyor can make original soup (Tuna and Cucumber) and many other very healthy foods that taste delicious
-George Forman Grills are much better for cooking hamburgers than a stove and cast iron.

Oh and my Grandmother has successfully survived her surgery to remove her bladder cancer *much much joy*
It was a short known immense fear and I didn't tell a lot of people about it because I prefered not to think about it and just hope for the best until after her surgery. They said after she went through the prcedure this morning that the cancer could be the result of smoking, which she did for 30 years before quiting cold turkey. I just started thinking about my grandmother and it has only truely now dawned upon me that she is a great and powerful and strong woman and always has been, even when I thought she was just a psyco, lol. I Love her immensly for her zest for life and only dare hope to be able to be like her right to the end.. maybe not in how volotile she is but in her strength as a person who knows what they want and will do anything to accomplish their goals. I still somewhat have the childish concept of her immortality drilled into my mind, but it's begining to fad... I will truely miss her when the time finally comes for her to pass... : p *sigh* I'm vaclempt as harley would say.. only i mean it seriously. Lorrain T. Hirz... you've inspired your granddaughter in ways you may not ever realize, but I hope that somewhere you will just know and understand.
