I am not a fan of hands free telephone conversations. Every single person in my office uses some sort of hands free speaking. Some use speaker phone. This option is ok, but when you walk in a room and happen to have entered during a pause it is still hard to read their minds and know they are on the phone. The MOST annoying is the little bluetooth ear piece that is becoming so popular. EEK! Since it is in their damn ear all the time, who KNOWS when they are on the phone??? Sometimes the PM will be speaking to me and I totally tune her out because I *think* she is on the phone. Others I reply to what I think was directed to me, and nope... she is involved elsewhere. It really is just irritating. The headsets are similar (with the earpiece and mouth/mouthpiece extension), but at least with those, the user doesnt normally leave it on when they arent on a call.
Maybe as I get more involved and become more techy the desire to shove a small electronic device in my ear will come to me. Hell, over time I might want an implant. For now I don't seem to mind holding my phone to my ear while I talk.
But, I love my job. When the only thing I can complain about is how my coworkers choice of telephone usage routinely makes me look like and idiot... things are good.
