these are the days worth living...

Ah, it's been a long week. It's about time for the next round of exams, too, so I'm guessing that next week will probably be a long one, too. ;)

Things that I have learned this week:
+ Dancing the fox trot is whee.
+ The first thing that comes to mind when I'm asked to say (in French) what food I like...is "sugar."
+ I should really learn to keep my mouth shut sometimes. *g*
+ When my professor says that he wants to ask me a question, I'll immediately start thinking of what I could've done wrong (feeling guilty much, eh? ;)).
+ "When you fall in love with someone, you don't want to share them. At least, not in that way."

But I did get Friday off for Fall Break. It's not much of a break, sure, but it's still a day off, and I used it to catch up on sleep. :D My roommate also insisted that I go back (with her) to Houston this weekend...if only to come to her house and look at Halloween costumes. Heh. The swing dance society is co-hosting a "masquerade ball" for Halloween, so that'll be quite a bit of work that we'll also have to take care of next week. Time is quite a valuable commodity these days, it seems. *g*

But, yeah, we left Waco this afternoon, and we had made it to Houston and were almost at my house when we saw smoke in the distance. The black clouds kept billowing, and when we turned off the freeway and headed to my house, we saw this to the side. Dude.

As it turned out, however, there weren't any casualties, so that was good.

My brother ended up coming home from college today, too--one of his friends is leaving for the Marines on Monday. Huh, it's been awhile since all of us were in the house together. :D I'm so proud of him, though. Going to college has really matured him, and he seems to be dealing well with his new responsibilities.

We talked about school for a bit, and then his phone rang. It was one of his friends, and I was about to turn my attention back to my LJing, but after a minute or so of chatting, he actually said (into the phone), "Hey, I was talking with my sister, so I'll call you back later, okay?" Which was the most surprising (but greatly appreciated) thing ever. :)

And it's wonderful the way that things work out sometimes. Last weekend, my parents came up, and I had ended up stressing about college expenses (among other things) to the hormonally-emotional point of tears. In a nutshell, my dad had suggested that I take fewer hours if I were feeling stressed, and my mother had tried to brush that off as a ridiculous suggestion (without, you know, making it seem obvious that she wanted me to keep up with my insane course load).

I know why she has to worry, because my brother just started college this fall and my sister will be starting college next year. But even though I was slightly resentful that with my scholarships, it's only about $5000 a year for everything (and when else will I be able to study whatever I want, at a private school, for that?), there was still that stress there.

Now, however, my brother has said that he only wants my parents to support him through this first year, and he's going to try and get an ROTC scholarship for the rest of his undergraduate term. He even mentioned the fact that he knows our sister is going into college next year and he doesn't want to be a big strain on our parents. It was very unexpected, but I'm glad that he's grown up well. Despite the fact that when I asked him how he was surviving the apartment life, he said, "I eat meat, breads, and candy. All very easy to get." *g*

...Okay, I'm too old to stay awake all night. :D Off to bed now, for there is much homework to be completed this weekend. But we have a forecasted low of 41 degrees for Monday, which isn't unusual for anyone not living in Texas (south of Waco, at least ;)), but it'll be a lovely change from the 90 degrees that we had earlier this week. I'm going to have to wear something flouncy. :D

Enjoy your weekend, all! :)
