On Wednesday/Thursday, I went to San Antonio because my brother had his college orientation (no, I was not about to let him take my car off on his own!). We stayed in New Braunfels at my aunt and uncle's house, and since I didn't want to drive back to New Braunfels each morning and then have to go down and pick my brother up again later in the afternoon, I merely amused myself by randomly driving about the city all day (usually getting stuck in traffic).
At SuperTarget, I found all sorts of neat things like donut peaches (which really were shaped like donuts) and grapples (they look like apples but taste like grapes), so that was exciting. Yes, rock on with the weird touristy thing...but in my defense, there is very little that is open at 8 a.m.
For lunch, I ate at EZ's with the twin (
starbuck92). She was sweet and funny and absolutely lovely, as expected, while I was...ditzy and very easily amused. Case in point: the cherry and vanilla syrups that you could add to your soda were quite fascinating, although not so good when I decided to taste each by itself. The twin was quite amused at that. ;)
Still, we had fun (omgcrayons), and we got to admire the lovely pictures of Ewan McGregor in Long Way Round (the book that she had just checked out). I still owe you dessert, my dear, so we'll have to do that sometime. :D
Thursday, however, was a long day. After escaping from the incessant creepy stares of this WAY older man at Barnes and Noble, I found that my battery had died and stranded me in the parking lot. In the midst of insanely hot weather. Joy. Luckily, I was able to call my uncle to drive down from New Braunfels and give me a jump. Do any of
you actually carry jumper cables in your car? Because, apparently, not many people in San Antonio do. Sigh.
I would create a poll for that, but alas, I do not have those capabilities.
Anyway. Once the car was finally running again, I drove to the other side of town to pick up my brother. He and I went to dinner, said our goodbyes, and finally made our way back home...only to find ourselves stuck in gridlock at 10 p.m. because of an accident. Ah, to be back in Houston, right? ;)
I find it amusing that in San Antonio, there are signs telling drivers, "Don't slow Texas down," while here in Houston, the signs proclaim, "Give us a brake." Hmm, what a difference it is to be able to drive at the speed limit in the left lane and not have someone riding on your tail. *g*
As a result of all this excitement (and so much driving! almost 600 miles in two days, ack!), yesterday, I slept for a long time to make up for the 6 a.m. mornings, and then, I watched Phantom of the Opera. Finally, I know; I've always been rather slow on catching movies! Lovely soundtrack, though.
Last but certainly not least, much congratulations for
iainc and
mebfeather! :) *many smoochies*
