I am really excited about Christmas! I have been excited for awhile now, especially as Josh and I have been planning different family things and friend things. But something about visiting my friend Dave last night and hearing his excitement for his Christmas plans just triggered something in me. I immediately left his place and spent two hours caroling down Libery Ave. These are the things I am MOST excited about:
1. 2nd Annual Gingerbread House Contest - Last year, my sister Clare and I came up with the idea to make gingerbread houses with our family. It seems like a basic idea, but it truly was revolutionary in our household. Our dad was the judge and almost as soon as that was announced, pandering to the judge began. Clare and I got a whole mess of candy, grahm crackers and frosting and spread it all over our dining room table. (PS -We got our frosting at BJs which came in a value pack with 2 vanillas and 1 chocolate. We thought at the time that this could give us more options for decorating. Result: brown chocolate = dirty snow = bad Christmas = mistake.) The making of the houses went great. My older sister, Eileen ended up winning because she infused her design with her home theme of California and even had a gummy bear palm tree. My brother, Michael had a tough time with his because the groundwork was never properly built and his kept collapsing. The last great thing about the contest was that after New Year's, Clare and I took the houses in the backyard and destroyed them with a baseball bat. This is on film somewhere and I totally need to youtube that sh*t.
2. Giving Josh his Christmas present! I really can't wait.
3. Seeing my family. Christmas is typically the one time througout the whole year that at least all six of us will get together. SInce Eileen lives in California and Michael lives in Detroit--it is not always feasible. But this year, for about 24 hours --all of us will be together. Mom, Dad, Eileen, Michael and Ravneet, Clare, and Josh and I. The only person missing is Matt (Eileen's boyfriend). And MacGyver. He consistently turns down our invitations.
4. Josh and I's Christmas Party!!
5. Our Hustlebot show on New Year's Eve. We are doing two shows for
First Night. I think we are going to be exposed to a whole new audience and I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
6. My little sister Clare is coming back with me from Cleveland for a few days. I am super excited about this! We have made plans to watch movies that are scary, but not too scary. (So I am Legend is okay, but Jessica Alba's The Eye is NOT!). We are also going to go tubing.
7. Bucket of Burgers. Every year, my Uncle Jack (my dad's brother) takes the entire Sweeney family out to dinner. It is at this brewery in Cleveland and on the menu, you can order a bucket of burgers. In this bucket comes a boat load of fries and six mini Angus burgers. It is great and I can't wait to go and individually prep six burgers with ketchup and mustard.
Okay--that is all I have for right now--but I know there are more things! Yeah for Christmas! "God rest ye merry gentlemen....something something something".
