M for Movies

My film/comic/music nerd of a roommate has informed me that a film version of V for Vendetta is in the works. If you're not familiar, it's a miniseries that was written by Alan Moore from 1981-88 about a guy who dresses up in semi-drag as a cloaked Shakespearean clown-type thing and commits acts of terror against a fascist British government. Kinda like Batman vs. 1984, if you can imagine such a thing. Very gritty, very dark, and very ahead of its time for a comic book.

They've got the guy who was assistant director from The Matrix and Star Wars: Episode III set for the big chair on this one. I'm optimistic, as the story seems like it would translate well into film. Movie versions of comic books, though, seem to be hit-or-miss, so there's definitely still room for fuckup on it too. We'll see how things turn out -- they just announced development last month, so there's no real info about casting or screenwriters (maybe the Wachowski brothers?).
