I don't write for EX either. I'm a canon whore and am too afraid that if I set something in the middle of the current madness that Murakami-sensei will come along and obliterate it in her next track. I do, however, take what's happened there and new characters (there's really only just one so far) into account, depending on when a fic is set.
The multi-part multi-chaptered fic is intended to explain Eiri's damage, from his childhood angst over his foreign looks, his hatred of his dad and the temple, and his mother's death, his time in NY and the rape and murder, his return to Kyoto as a suicidal broken boy toy, his remaining high school days as a punk and delinquent, his move to Tokyo to write and adoption of sensei's name as part of his pen name, and some further ramifications that occur after Gravi I timeline (and whatever there is of EX as well) that draw him back to NY and jeopardize his life, sanity, and career (not to speak of causing great angst to the characters back in Japan) but have the potential to heal him once and for all.
I forbear from explaining more here but might send you a message with more details if you don't mind.
Also, just skimmed "Paper Airplane". Glad to see you're clearing out old fic. Would the rest of "The Yogomori Metronome" be part of it? Please?
