OPP looking for witnesses to collision

An area resident was killed instantly Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 9, just outside of Orangeville.
At around 8 a.m. on Aug. 18, Susan Leslie Thorpe, 49, of Orangeville was jogging on the shoulder of the road near the auto mall when she was hit by a pick-up truck.
Thorpe was pronounced dead at the scene.
The westbound lane was closed to traffic for most of the morning, while officers conducted their investigation; cars travelling in that direction were rerouted southbound onto Kennedy Road. A line-up of vehicles driving eastbound stretched as far as Highway 10.
The driver of the truck sobbed and wiped away tears as paramedics led him into an ambulance.
Const. Kim Horne of Caledon OPP said no charges have been laid and the matter is still under investigation.
Thorpe held a degree in science from the University of Guelph and was an educational assistant at Princess Margaret Public School in Orangeville.
She is survived by her husband Peter and two children Stephen and Alex.
A funeral service will be held in the Dods & McNair Funeral Home and Chapel on Sunday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m.

Emergency crews from Orangeville and surrounding areas converged on Highway 9, Aug. 18, after a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at around 8 a.m. Early morning traffic came to halt as police conducted their investigations. The road leading into Orangeville was sectioned off until noon, with cars travelling in the westbound lane being rerouted south onto Kennedy Road. Susan Leslie Thorpe, 49, of Orangeville was pronounced dead at the scene.
