I'm so post modern that I post muzakblogs!

Sep 14, 2006 13:28

Hey, y'all! Time for yet another muzakblog! (I told you I was gonna do them more.) Based on the results of the poll last time, there was a split as to what sort of content you guys prefer, but one thing was clear: you all unanimously wish I would post less stuff, more often. I guess those huge posts of doom really are hard to take in all at once. Anyhow, this is a "double-post" of sorts in that it also includes the promised Zero 7 songs from the concert, but in general the posts should be around this size from now on (about 4-6 songs, that is).

So I posted about how I went to the Zero 7 & Jose Gonzales concert and then never got around to posting any tracks, right? Well, here they are. Oh, and Zero 7 is actually one of those groups where the core members are the musicians and they get guest vocalists to do all the singing, so the singer varies on each song/album.

* You're My Flame
This track is from their most recent CD "The Garden" which is the one I like the best so far. Zero 7's first two albums became well known among the sort of hipsters who like slow ambient "chill" nonsense so they're all complaining that this album doesn't sound like the others. I'm not really into slow ambient and thus I prefer this album, which is way more uptempo (multitempo, says Amazon). This particular song is catchy and pretty, but the real reason I like it is the lyrics. When I actually listened to them I just loved them. Plus, it's kind of started to be my Johnny & Gyro song... after all, it's about that inspirational and amazing person who is just full of life and contradictions and craziness and yet manages to come out on top and keep their cool. XD

* Crosses
This track is also off "The Garden." Unlike the last song, I like this one purely for how it sounds and haven't actually bothered really listening to the lyrics yet. XD; I'm sure they're good or something. I think Jose Gonzales does the singing as it sounds like himi (actually, I think he does all the male vocal songs on this album, but I'm not sure).

* Futures
Another track off "The Garden." I've been told Mr Gonzales does sing on this one. This is the first Zero 7 song I heard, though I don't recall where I got it.

* Destiny
Zero 7 has two other CDs: "Simple Things" and "When It Falls." This song is off "Simple Things." Damien really likes "When It Falls" but I don't have it so you'll have to take his word that it's interesting. The songs on these discs are a little slow for me. XD;

* Jose Gonzales - Heartbeats
This is Jose's first single off his album "Veneer." It's a cover of a song by The Knife. It's pretty. This is his style: him singing and an acoustic guitar. Turn it all the way up so his voice will wash over you or you just won't get the experience. I find that sort of thing boring usually, but live it was just amazing.

* Radiohead - Climbing Up The Walls (Zero 7 Mix)
Oh lawl, you thought we were done with Radiohead... BUT YOU WERE WRONG.

SMILE, SOMEBODY LUVS U???
Gaaaaah all the pansy stuff I've been posting lately is driving me insane. HAVE SOME OTHER STUFF. Okay actually for some reason it's all humourous pop music this week. Grah. GUITARS NEXT TIME.

* Jupiter Rising - Go! (Pop Mix)
Don't know anything about this trip-hop band other than they are being hyped a bit, that this song is VERY catchy, and that they are so new that they don't actually have any albums out yet. I think their debut is supposed to be released at the end of this month; I'll definitely be looking into it to see if the rest sounds like this.

* Prozzak - Omabolashire
"She is my lover, from the heart of Africa~ Like no other, princess of Nigeria!" THIS SONG IS REALLY HAPPY. IT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY TOO. Where the hell did I get this?! Was it from surlykitty or petronia (the usual suspects with happy cute dancey pop music)? Whoever it was, I want some more! XD (Note: you should like this if you like Cornershop's song "Brimful of Asha.")

ETA apparently I got that song from Puu! (She did send me more. MWAHAHA.)

* The Bedroom Philosopher - I'm So Post Modern
"I’m so postmodern I went home and typed up everything you said and printed it out in wingdings and gave it back to you." I really don't see why you would not like to listen to this song.

* ThouShaltNot - If I Only Were A Goth
"I'd pretend to be a vampire like in stories round the campfire, yes I'd suck your bloody froth... oh the thing that I'd be best at is impersonating Lestat, if I only were a goth!" Okay, this entry has turned into "great songs that will make you giggle."

* MC Lars - Ahab
MC Lars makes "post-punk laptop rap." Actually, he was attending Stanford University as an English major prior to getting a record deal. This song, which is basically Moby Dick in three minutes of entertaining hip-hop, is proof of the pure nerdy tradition from whence he springs. XD

* MC Lars - Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock
"Slipknot binder paper is not punk rock! Tinkerbell pillow cases are not punk rock! Led Zeppelin air fresheners are not punk rock! Tupac incense burners are not punk rock!" Hilarity.

I have a bunch more songs I wanted to share but I've already hit the new limit, so... uh... wait till next time!

In other news... I started Metal Gear Solid 3. So far I've eaten a frog and a python. I'm hot. I love my indoor facepaint. I am not wearing a shirt. God this game is like DOA Beach Volleyball or something... can I get more outfits for Snekkid? Can I obtain cute accessories for him (like a gas mask)? Gah, the fanservice, it burns!
