Pastoral palm leaves conflagration
I heard the other day that Boston was shutting down its churches
for low attendance on Sundays
and important pagan holidays.
Everything is unbearably logical.
turning knobs on the equalizer haphazardly
to make proper sounds.
They should really put on a sweepstakes giveaway:
3rd place winner gets all the body.
Second place winner, all the blood.
And the grand prize salvation ( Company employees cannot enter.
They wouldn't be interested anyway.)
It's all so annoyingly Episcopal,
preacher tells us
his sin was heavy.
The purpose is to turn the congregation's knobs, just enough
to keep the tithe from ebbing, and the influx of wafers in stasis.
In the end, it's paradoxical:
He leans over a pulpit,
pressing points of fact and faith.
You watch me drop a Kit-Kat wrapper in the basket,
and laugh at the rent curtains.
