More on Season 18.

I've finished watching "The Leisure Hive", and have now started watching "Meglos". One of the bits I've jotted down is this:

The surreality of an English accountant being held prisoner by space pirates is nothing compared to Meglos himself. He is the last of the Zolfa Thurans, and a diabolical genius, and has a grand master plan to take over the ( Read more... )

I only just found out last night that, for the first few drafts, the bad guy in The Lodger was going to be Meglos! How awesome would that have been?!

They basically seem to have canned the idea once they saw the Vinvocci in The End of Time, because green spikey and humanoid is how Meglos looks when he possesses someone. But yes, Meglos back, out for revenge against the Doctor. The best thing? Meglos was going to have to remind the Doctor of who he was! The Doctor had completely forgotten about him :)

I was having a bad night after a crap day, and I can't tell you how much that idea cheered me up :)

Yeah I read that, and got all cranky they didn't go through with it. Meglos is awesome.

Whereas it made me happy because they were five drafts in before stopping, and they appear to have mainly stopped because of the Vinvocci. So it was discussed several times and they were perfectly will to go for it for a fair while. That gives me hope for similar weird shit in the future.

See, that just makes me angry about the Vinvocci all over again. Not just crap enough that they helped drag End of Time down to one of the worst stories of 21st century Who, but so unremittingly awful they've now damaged an unrelated story.

Was this also the season with the green, one eyed, spaghetti headed looking guy and "This is a fake" on Da Vinci's works written in felt tip. I really enjoyed that story too, though I can only remember snippets.

"To be frank, Herbert.."

The green spaghetti guy and the multiple Mona Lisas are in "City of Death", which was one year before in Season 17. Awesome, hilarious story.

I wonder if my perception of it will have changed much since I saw it back then.

I recently watched the "The Sarah Jane Adventures" episode "Mona Lisa's Revenge" and was wondering how this conflicts with the Doctor Who episode "City Of Death"
