This is a review about the movie "Secretary".

The movie is about a young woman that still lives at home and tries to find a job. She applies at the office of a strange lawyer and he gives her the job. He gives her strange work and is very strict about mistakes she makes.
To be honest, I was sucked into the movie from the get-go. Not only because of the bdsm-content, but also because it's such a nice atmosphere in it. It's rater cute than anything else. And in Germany it's FSK-16 so it means 16 years old can watch it. So don't expect any long, hard sex scenes. It's a very tender, subtle movie instead.
I liked this movie a lot. I identified myself with Lee immediately and of course I was attracted to Edward :) You feel with her, as she struggles to make good work and be a good secretary for him. Edward is so strange that you never know what to expect. But he...ties you up with his behaviour ;)
There are a lot of little things, little metaphors in the movie, that show how much love the director - and all the others that made this movie - put into it. For example as Lee enters the office for the first time she wears a cape like a Little Red Riding Hood that's walking towards the wolf :D
I don't want to ruin all the little secrets that this movie has and that it makes so wonderful to watch it. But I'll say this: This movie will surprise you. In many ways. Yes, it's a love story and yes, it's a love story with bdsm. Yes, there are some clichés, but it will surprise you, I can promise you that.
In the ending I was crying. Not just a little (cause I cry easily and many movies make me cry a little) but REALLY crying. Like having a heart break. It was bitter sweet. I was so touched from the storyline and how it turned out. Aaah <3
Great actors are great. I don't understand why this movie is so unpopular. I've never heard of it before. (If you know more movies like that, feel free to recommend them to me!)
I've watched it in German but I'd highly recommend to watch it in the original tune, cause, well... it's better IMO.
"Secretary" is a very tender movie about bdsm and how it's not a perversion but a part of the personality of the people. It shows that violence can be sexual without being degrading or disgusting. It shows that people can be happy, in love and tender with it at the same time.
