1)Total number of books owned?
I have no idea. If they were all in bookcases, or at least on shelves, I might be able to use
listersgirl's Billy method of measurement. My guess would be somewhere in excess of 500, but that is just a guess.
2) The last book I bought?
I ordered four books from Amazon the other day. The first of them arrived today and it is Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them by Al Franken.
3) The last book I read?
Busman's Honeymoon by Dorothy L. Sayers. Comfort reading. Mmmm.
4) 5 books that mean a lot to me:
The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly by Jean Dominique Bauby. One of the most inspiring but heart-rending books I've ever come across.
The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery. I first read this because of the recommendations at Chicklit - that was about 4 years ago and I must have read it about 10 times since then.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The first Austen I ever read - I was about 12 and off school sick - I fell in love instantly, with Darcy and with Jane Austen.
Boiling a Frog by Christopher Brookmyre. I love all his books (and am currently waiting very impatiently for the latest to arrive on my doorstep), but this one is my favourite. It has everything I look for in a book - politics, religion, humour, and jokes about punctuation.
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell. I just wish she'd finished it.
Can I just say that I hate that these things always want us to limit ourselves to some stupidly tiny number. I'm sure that all of you reading this understand that this is just a list of the first 5 books I thought of today, and that on any other day it'd probably be different.
5) Tag 5 people and have them fill this out on their ljs
riarambles, since I know she'll have answers for this one,
zoje_george, because she missed the random alphabetical thing,
yiskah,
stellanova, and
majea. Unless any of those people have already done it and I missed it somehow.
