I'm home again, yay. :) And on my way home I saw Joe Flanigan -- we actually shared a plane on the way back to LAX. (For the non-SGA fans on my Flist, he's the guy on the right in my icon.) I wasn't sure it was him when I first noticed him at the gate, then I put on my glasses. I've seen that expression on a few pics posted on LJ, and there's no mistaking the hair. [grin] I didn't talk to him because I think going up to celebrities when they're not working (at a convention, or a premiere, or something like that) is about as cool as asking some doctor you just met at a party to diagnose that pain in your side. But I saw him and he walked right by my aisle seat on the plane a couple of times, so wow.
What really made this incident stand out, though, was that it's the first time I've ever seen anyone I recognize at the airport, so finally seeing someone made me go "Huh." I live in Long Beach and fly into or out of LAX between eight and twelve times a year, and have done so for about eleven years now. And I'd been in and out of LAX however many times even before I lived here. It's just sort of weird, now that I think about it, that in all the hours and hours and hours I've spent standing in line for check-in or security or to get a drink, seeing people haul their luggage back and forth and juggle coffees and sandwiches and magazines, sitting at the gate watching crowds of people surge back and forth, I've never before seen anyone I recognize. And not just celebs, but people I've worked with or gone to school with or other fans I see at conventions -- nothing. All those people and I've never seen anyone I had any sort of prior connection with, no matter how tenuous. It sort of brings home what it's like to be one person among millions, at a place like a major airport.
It sort of puts all the convenient coincidences in books and TV and movies into perspective. [wry smile]
Oh, and check this out if you want to see
a writer working hard to tank her career. [eyeroll] You really have to wonder about some people.
On a more personal note, I still haven't unpacked, nor have I transferred files from the laptop to the desktop yet. I'm hoping to get some NaNo writing done tonight [crossed fingers] but I'm like three or four days behind on my Flist and it's probably going to be at least a couple of days before I catch up. [flail] I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, or at least a good week. :)
