Hello hello!
Wow, I haven't posted since I came back from London. Twitter's more convenient, less time consuming, I guess. But I've been sooo busy since then, and still am, and oh my god I REALLY want this year to be over!
Anyway! Let me tell you about London/HalloWhedon, now it's still somewhat fresh in my memory. My sister (Suzy), a friend of hers (Gaby) and me (hi!) went off to London for three days, to go and attend HalloWhedon, a convention in celebration of Halloween and Joss Whedon's series. Suzy and I were particularly excited by the idea of having a Firefly guest there. However, there were Buffy/Angel guests only: James Marsters, Nicholas Brendon, Mercedes McNab, Harry Groener, Mark Lutz and James Leary. When Harry Groener canceled, Suzy and I had the faint hope of him being replaced by a Firefly guest, but no, unfortunately.
When we arrived in London and after dumping our bags at the hotel first, we went out to find the Abercrombie & Fitch store in order to find a present for our younger stepsister, who's obsessed with anything with a brand on it. XD However, we totally didn't expect spending three hours to find it, then having to queue in order to get in, then fucking loud music inside, a totally crowded store that would almost get you claustrophobic, and seriously...the shirt we wanted to buy was under a glass case. Like it was some fucking piece of jewelry! Then we could wait another two hours in the line to pay. I mean, there were like 20 employees wandering around, just standing there looking hot (or dancing =S) but... there were just two registers!? When we got out, if it were possible, I would have hugged the fresh air!
I had wanted to do some shopping for myself aswell, but A&F was WAY too expensive, and we had to catch the tube to get to the convention, as there were guest talks.
The convention was located at the Thistle hotel, and it costed us another eight pounds to get there by bus. When we arrived, I wasn't really impressed. The dealer room was, to say it lightly, dissappointing.
As was the merchandise. We did find the Firefly dvd for 20 pounds, which did cheer me up, but oh dear, the rest of the stands... There was even one stand selling PHOTOGRAPHS. Photographs you could easily print off yourself. Some were rare, but still. I guess I see what they were thinking, as there were autograph sessions ofcourse and the photo's we've gotten for free weren't exactly the most beautiful or flattering.
Anyway, the guest talks. The guests were AWESOME. Funny and very sweet to the fans. But, I could hardly see a thing because, ofcourse we had the cheapest tickets so we had to sit in the back. I can't remember exactly what happened/was said that night, but it was quite short, so afterwards we trotted back to the hotel again. I believe there was a party, but our hotel was three hours away so it didn't seem such a good idea.
The next day there were photoshoots and signings. I think we went to Nick's signing first. And he's a total diva! With his sunglasses and hat, lol. I wouldn't say arrogant though, but then again my standards aren't that high after meeting Natasha Hamilton once *sigh*. He signed with: "Angie, olé!" and then his name. I think we went to Mark next. He's awesome, aswell. He asked Gaby why she didn't write her name with two B's. She replied with: "Why would I?" He proceeded to sign Suzy's autograph with "Marrk Luttz" XD
Then we went into the dealerroom for a bit, and all I bought was a comic for Liz and something small for Marjorie, as they even had Supernatural stuff! (There was one whole stand with Twilight shirts =/)
Then, I think, there were more guest talks which were awesome. Nick did the snoopy dance. And James, bless him, got a bit too much carried away in his story and accidently stamped his foot! And as you might know, he had an accident on the Torchwood set and hurt his back (he signed laying on two tables!).
And then he looked so pain, you could hear everyone holding their breath. Luckily he was okay and he continued talking. Props for that man, so loyal to his fans, awesome.
Mercedes, by the way, is way to gorgeous! She was on stage with Nick and they were kind of dissing each other. She told us how someone let her sign a picture of her dad. WTF?! Okay, he's famous, but hello?
Next day, we had the Mercedes signing and again wow she is too gorgeous. She was really nice! Nothing noteworthy though... James Leary got sick and would be back later, but Suzy and I didn't have any patience (his picture was ugly anyway, him in Clem-costume: Hello, he's gorgeous, just give us a normal pic?) but Gaby went back later.
Then, James Marsters, my oh my....He was so sweet! Gaby gave him a Get Well card and he thanked her so genuinely! And he said "Hello there, how are you?" to Suzy in such a deep porn voice I could have died. Very very nice man, gorgeous aswell! No wonder I used to have such a crush on him when I was younger, haha.
That evening there was an auction and people really pay ridiculous amounts of money for just an autograph =X and somebody actually paid 900 pounds to have dinner with James. Ninehundred. I've never actually had that amount of money all at once!
All in all, it was nice, but I don't think it was worth all the money I (we) forked over. Oh, it really sounds like I'm dissing the whole HalloWhedon thing, but honestly I'm not.
The crew was ever so nice and the whole thing was so cleverly set up! You didn't have to wait very long to get your autograph, and there was no pushing and screaming or anything. That was good.
I guess it's just not my thing, feeling like a fangirl the whole time. And we just kinda made a mistake with the hotel. We insisted on staying at the Green Man, where we always go to, but it was just too far away.
I will go next year, though. Why? They guaranteed a Firefly guest AND Anthony Stewart Head will be coming! And we'll just stay one extra day longer, so we can do some shopping for ourselves aswell.
Although for some reasons it just feels weird to me to pay to take a picture with someone, just because they are a celebrity. I mean, they are a person too! I know it's not that weird but... I don't know. But I *do* want a picture with Anthony, for some reason. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait and see!
Geesh this story got extremely long! If anyone actually read this they deserve a cookie. Well at least I can read it back later myself. I actually had more to say but I guess I'll leave it at this.
