Well, I'm back home after an intense weekend, to say the least. But it was fun. I mean, how can it go bad when the first thing I saw when I entered the house was two Assorted Bird hanging in the window?
Anyway, a new Neil You ablum was released last Wednesday! So, naturally, here's a
Fork in the Road review.
Neil himself pretty much sums up the album in the song Cough Up The Bucks: 'It's all about my car'. Yes, it is indeed all about his car. And not just any car, but the Lincvolt, a 1959 Lincoln Continental which Neil together with Jonathan Goodwin (and, I'm guessing, a whole lot of other people) is trying to turn into a fuel efficient, environment-friendly modern vehicle.
'Our goal is to inspire a generation by creating a clean automobile propulsion technology that serves the needs of the 21st Century and delivers performance that is a reflection of the driver's spirit. By creating this new power technology we hope to reduce the demand for petro-fuels enough to eliminate the need for war over energy supplies, thereby enhancing the security of the USA and other nations throughout the world.'
Lincvolt-Repowering the American Dream And Neil being who he is, he off course made an intire album in honour of this project. It is classical Neil Young-rock with lyrics reflecting his fascination of the new technology and his endelss love of cars. Not being interested in cars in the slightest, I think this gets rather tiresome after a while, but at the same time I find Neils enthusiasm rather cute. There's a nerd if I ever saw one.
My favourite song is probably Cough Up The Bucks. It sounds like Neil has been listening to hip hop and the repeated question of 'Where did all the money go?' probably mirrors both the exepnsiveness of the Lincvolt-project and the resent financial crisis. Another track which has stuck with me is Just Singing a Song, which was played live, I don't know if it was the first time, but one of the first times ever on Way Out West in Gothenburg last year and I WAS THERE! How cool isn't that?
With this album Neil once again shows his nack for picking cover pictures. This time he's used what looks like a cellphone photo taken by himself of himself outside what I'm guessing is his house. He's also taken music videos to a whole new level. Just look at
Fork In The Road and
Just Singing a Song:P
All in all it's an average album. It's Neil and it's nerdy, and that's about it.
