Boo facebook

Jun 25, 2007 17:41

For some unknown, mystical internet reason, the facebook site is not working at our house. We can get it in town, just not here. Perhaps the tubes are full of gambling chips, I'm not sure.

So here's an update for all those interested in what my life is like right now. It's bug season. And bug season sucks royally. Blackflies, Horeseflies, Deerflies, Mosquitoes and Noseeums. All out for blood, my blood. And they are here in numbers. And although it's in the mid to high 20s, I have to wear long johns underneath my pants so that the mosquitoes don't bite through them. It's absolutely awful.
When it's cool at night, it's great... but in the hot weather it's really quite stifling.

Our vegetable garden is started, and we will begin on the flowers soon, Todd is making us a nice flower box, bless his heart.
Also ont he boo side - we only get paid once a month, and we haven't been paid since May 28th, so the funds are getting low.

Went out to the bar a couple of nights back, and that was interesting. Was drinking polar bear shots - a delight (1/2 creme de cacao, 1/2 creme de menthe). Good times were had by all.

In other news I saw the movie - My super Ex girlfriend, which was so cheesy. Funny because it was so cheesy, but definitely not a good film.

Started upon socks for Christine this week, I'm halfway done the first sock.

I don't think that anything else is new, I've decided upon my NSERC project, we are gluing spools of thread to deer mice and then seeing where they go by followig the thread. Should be good. Interesting and enough data for a paper, for sure. Other than that, not much is going on.

As previously mentioned - I will devulge a little information on the book I recently finished.
It is called Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv.
It's an interesting book. It's mostly about how exposure to nature can decrease and alleviate many of the symptoms of ADHD. And how we should encourage children to play freely in the outdoors, not just organized sports. Let them use their sense of awe to make them feel refreshed.
It also talks about a number of studies, famous people, histories of play, etc.
Although Louv isn't the most interesting writer, his book is well researched and makes some interesting points. Some of the things he said I do not agree with at all, and for one part of the book he was blathering on like he was high. Talking about how we could slowly breed a cattle/bison hybrid. (To which I respond, uh, No.) Other than that and a few other bits which I think he was wrong about, it's got a wealth of information on which you can base your own findings.

When/If I finish the next one, I'll let you know.
