Of Love Lost

Feb 11, 2009 00:32

It's been ages since my last post..  And yet again, a pome do I bring you.

I originally wrote it in three parts.  The first two, on separate journeys to the photocopy machine.  (I hate the amount of paper that this organization uses up.  Every thing needs 20 hard-copies or more!)  The last two stanzas were written soon as it copied this stuff onto my laptop.  You'll probably notice the variation in the words, but read as a whole, I think it adds a little something that would'nt have come if I'd written it all in a flow.

I've been extremely tired of late, the stress and strain of the days wear me down.  Add to that, a new bout of Insomnia.  I've been snatching brief wisps of sleep, barely lasting an hour or two at night, and then crawling out of bed with eyes feeling like someone's thrown a handful of grit into them.

Any way, moving right along, try not to read anything into this pome please.  Try not to do that, and then..  and only then, slip under the cut:

" O f     L o v e     L o s t "

He walks for miles, an eternity or so....
and yet, time unending..  he carries hope.
For he promised her heart, he'd one day return,
He promised her hope, and his heart in turn.

Through heat and cold, a foot at a time,
laid ahead of the other, a senseless rhyme.
and through it all, an image of her,
he carried in his mind as it were....

A world away, embedded in a separate world,
she hopes he'll wink at her, a smile to touch the bold..
he tells her he loves her, she believes it not hollow,
her heart teaches her of the path to follow.

A year and a half, time the healer of pain,
the past forgotten, a broken chain.
He had promised, and his word he kept and one day returned,
to find it was'nt him..  a dream rudely burned!

A child with muddy cuffs hugs his thigh,
a tear so honestly wet..  A man can cry.
He loved her so, but she sought another,
her child so small, and he was'nt the father.

Slow and heavy, his heart did beat,
       calloused fingers clawed in heat,
he bit down upon a lip and sighed,
when on his journey, he should have died.
