I've been having a nice tame little discussion on desichama's blog about god and closely related things. Mostly, the relevance of God. As a creation, and as a reality

lol! Yeah, it can get mighty strange on my journal. Some of my controversial posts tend to take on a life of their own. If you go through my archives, you'll even see some posts where the comments are much longer than the post itself. :) You'll get used to this kind of wierd argument-for-arguments-sake commenting in time. No need to say sorri. :)

Yay! Glad you liked it. I don't regret having suggested it to you now. :o)
The debate on good&bad has been a class discourse many a time in the past on my journal. A lot of people still think too rigidly. I say that good and bad are relative opinions. What is good for one person, may well be bad for another person.
For the person who wins a competition, he does'nt see that the guy who came second is cursing him and that he feels like someone fscked up or something, if you know what I mean. The guy who loses does'nt always see that the guy who won, did so on his own merit or whatever. Everything is relative.
Cannibals think that eating human flesh is a good thing. Heck, they'd even have a God who they pray to before digging into the meat. however, modern religions would outlaw such a community and would dismiss such a God.
Who's to say what is good or bad? If enough people gang up and decide that eating human flesh is a good thing, then people who refuse to eat human flesh would be the outlaws and the God that does not eat met will be the fake god. :) It's all relative!
The thing about ruling over a large number of people is that allowing them to do what they pleased would mean mayhem and confusion. Everyone wants something or the other. And it's the rules and regulations that keep people from messing up other peoples lives. In the early times, Religion provided the world with those rules and regulations. Today, the Law is capable of taking over from religion (if only it is given a chance!).
Of course there will be deviants, and that's why we have outlaws and that's why, in the olden days, so many religions came about. I don't like this God, I'll make up my own. Sooner or later, some people start liking my God and I have a religion of my own. The people who made up gods and religions that were'nt popular died out and their religions and cults died with them.
Today, we have Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, blah-blah. All started small, all survived. But there are so few cataloged dead religions out there that people hardly ever turn back to see the 'reason' behind _why_ they believe in the first place.
