Life has been puttering along at a rather mild pace lately, which has actually been rather pleasant. The weather has been extremely fine (honestly, if it was sunny and about 20ish like this all summer I would be perfectly content) and the garden is enjoying it as much as I am.
Sadly most of the peas succumbed to mildew just before the weather warmed up, but the broad beans are doing well and a couple of weeks ago I put in some tomatoes and green beans under the pergola and they are coming along nicely too. The front garden has gone a bit mad with flowers. The last couple of weekends I have been trying to put in some heat tolerant plants so the flowers will continue through summer, but it is hard to find space!
Time I haven't been gardening I have been crocheting and weaving. I finished the scarf I started to try out the frame loom, and immediately began warping it up with something else. I decided I needed to do something a different for warping than last time, as I did a very bad job of cutting all the yarn to the right length.
One downside of Spring is hayfever. I've had a few rather unpleasant days with it, but mostly it's been a low grade irritation, except in the mornings. The pollen, the early morning sun (which shines directly down our hallway at this time of year as if our front door was the entrance to a neolithic tomb), and a stiff neck that has been troubling me on and off, all conspire to drag me out of sleep at ungodly early hours. Roll on daylight savings I say.
School holidays are upon us once again, and Mum and dad will be visiting for a week from Wednesday. I am going to take a couple of extra days off around the long weekend, and I am quite looking forward to it.
