We had my parents to stay over Easter and for the week afterwards, and I decided to take that week off. I was hoping for a nice week gallivanting about with my mum and dad , having leisurely lunches in pleasant spots.Unfortunately the weatherwas not very kind and my body was not cooperating.
I did quite a lot of shopping, cooking and baking over the long weekend (including another attempt at cheese making). And the end result of all that time on my feet was that my knee swelled up like an orange (just not actually orange and crinkly). So after that l spent a lot of time sitting down with my knee on a cushion. I honestly don't know what is wrong with it. I took it to the doctor and they could find nothing wrong with the bones, tendons or joints, although it's possible there might be some minor soft tissue damage. At this stage it seems like all I can do is rest it and wait. After spending half of last year hobbling about on a dodgy ankle it is rather frustrating (and Ian deeply amused that my hand writing recognition software initially wanted to read that as 'fun hating'). My body seems to have gotten to 40 and decided that it doesn't bounce anymore.
Despite the knee it was still nice to have a week off, and we managed a few outings, so it wasn't actually that bad of a week. And, indeed, now it is school holidays, and both Andy and I have colds, so it's actually starting to look pretty good in hindsight.
Another thing that happened last week was Erin's birthday. She has recently discovered sushi, so we made her sushi for dinner. When I asked her to look up a cake for me to make her in our cake books, she turned to the internet instead, and showed me a cake with a meme involving her current favourite anime character . l gently explained the impracticalities of such a thing, so thenshe came up with a sushi cake. So I made a sushi cake. It was a pain in the bum to do, actually, because icing does not stick very well to cut cake surfaces(those with exposed crumb), so cutting cake into small pieces and then trying to ice each one individually is very fiddly and annoying. But it come out ok, I think, and the kids seemed to approve (to judge by the speed with which it got scoffed).
