Frodo Baggins walked in the garden in the afternoon when the roses were fading and dropping their petals on the pathways. He wished for a thousand things but for Sam most of all.

Sam walked tall these days, planting and planning and tucking Rose Cotton’s small hand into his arm, but in the evenings at Bag End Frodo and Sam sat beside the hearth and looked at one another as if the world could be born again from the ashes.

Frodo Baggins walked in the garden and in his mind Samwise walked beside him all the way to the Sea.
