I've seen the Powers Boothe TV version of "A King In Yellow", and he was IMHO a lot closer to the the Marlowe than any of the others. I have a real problem reading Chandler now - my head constructs a Marlowe who's more like Boothe; my heart wants Bogie... although
the most fun Marlowe was Elliott Gould, but I'd watch Elliott Gould read the phonebook - he personifies the anti-hero for me.

Would be very interesting to hear those old radio versions...

I was a huge Chandler fan back in my teens and twenties, really do owe myself a complete re-read sometime soon.
