In Halifax, surrounded by boxes (slowly playing
sokoban with them and furniture). Lost IVAR struts, so ordering again online. No phonebook, so need to go to library and look up drycleaners to get the couch slipcover bettered (never did since we bought it nearly a year ago).
Take note, and pass the word on: NOTHING IS CHEAPER IN HALIFAX THAN VANCOUVER. Except our laundry machines. And possibly farmers' market apples. And who cares, but probably property prices or cars or something. Milk is half again as much (over six dollars per gallon), and rent is same or greater. We live downtown and pay a hair more here than there. A friend lives less downtown, and pays $5xx/mo but shares with four others. Beer, which you would sort of think what with the lifestyle and the pubs and whatnot, doesn't seem any cheaper (maybe I'm too finicky?). At least we don't seem to pay for utilities. Except Internet.
Weather usually very windy. Rain in torrents every two or three days, but evaporated by the next morning. Sunny often. Radiator heat disappointingly subtle, causing me to keep windows almost all closed.
Rats still mostly cramped except during playtime, because young'uns heads fit through the larger cage's bars. Mom rat came with name Jetta. Themed according to ethnically-similarly-named Silent Movie Actresses. Littermate one is now Asta, and littermate two is now Valda.
Bought two small houseplants and a tiny cactus. And a hanging "string of beads" plant.
Learned how to do the Russian Shuffle last week (in order to fidget during the lags of Virtual PC), and a one-handed cut. Still practising.
Am in grad' school and doing the online classes. See "Virtual PC", above. Still owe
agentpaper a serious update post. Regarding Seattle, class format, class topic, etc.
Have slacked off on exercising, and have misplaced bathroom scale.
Need to make doctor appointment to diagnose or rule out arthritis in left pinky. Occasional morning (on waking up, no matter the hour) painless "dislocated-y" discontinuous/quantum style of movement at base/knuckle (metacarpophalangeal joint), for a long time now. Happened every day while I stayed at my mom's house last month (due to cold?). Recently, here: morning pain in moving, and cracking in proximal (middle knuckle) or distal (I can't swear to which, but I supect distal) interphalangeal. Also cracking later in the day (i.e. now, when I make a fist). No reddening, swelling. No symptoms in any other joints.
