With
gragathaz, I saw and thoroughly enjoyed1 Beowulf and Grendel on Saturday. They talked oddly and earthily. The landscape was a character (I downloaded many tens of Icelandic photographs from the website's gallery for my Desktops folder).
Fluffy Battle Ponies! As previously mentioned, Hrothgar will be playing Bootstrap Bill Turner. I'm told there is more
entertaining boasting in the actual poem, which I really should read soon.
Today, because I discovered
the series only in time for its last day (missing all the Kurosawas), I'll be watching three samurai movies. Is anybody sitting around bored at home on the holiday? Might you find largely-trousered swordsmen of interest? Feel free to join me at the 4:30, the 6:30, or the 9:30 show (see website for shows/prices/address).
Gragathaz and brother are, sadly, busy/not-interested.
In other news, I could use a swords[wo]man icon.
Oh! I also watched
The Sea Hawk from zip.ca the other week, which was also thoroughly enjoyable. (As if an Errol Flynn pirate movie mightn't be!) It's interesting to see the old-school swordfight scenes which feature only fencing, and yet are still thrilling. Also seabattles! And unnecessary Spain to WWII analogy.
1 With the single inexcusable exception of s/mead/beer/. And a suspicion that featuring the actual Brendan as the Christian interlude is a bit cheap.
