Will be out of town this coming weekend, starting Thursday, so there will be no Doctor Who nor Games at our place this week.
This weekend's
graphxgrrl visit was fun. Besides De Dutch and Sunday gaming, we showed her the first two Autons episodes. I'd forgotten how bad-ass the Master can be when he's not hypnotising people (even if I can't understand the motivation behind his schemes). I made chocolate cupcakes with maple nut frosting in honor of it being recently her birthday; they came out very greasy from the pan, which I consequently had to soap repeatedly. The frosting recipe called for at least two-thirds more sugar than I ended up adding. Now the leftover frosting beckons from the fridge. She also gave us some spare Ivar (IKEA) shelving, for which I'll need to procure wood screws and probably 1 more cross-brace gizmo.
Miscellaneous Recent Updates:
Emma had another what's-this-lump appointment two or three weeks ago, which the Vet' told me was inoperable. I also got her some tasty (she gulps it down; maybe it's in sugar syrup?) prednisone at that time which does seem to be having somewhat of a beneficial effect on her hind legs. However, I wonder that it isn't having a similar effect on her chest lumps, which have grown quite large since that appointment, and which have scabs (bursting? dragging?) in places. She has another appointment tomorrow morning at 09:30. I will inquire about scabs and steroids.
Neil Gaiman signing was fun, and
notassuch and
blue_lotus have described that sufficiently for me to say no more. (Neil, regarding a decomposing latex Muppet: "I think that's probably the most disturbing thing I've ever had my hand inside of.")
My breadbin's lid became warped, due to the two loaves of peanut butter bread that I made a couple weeks ago.
The IRS and The Company In Question all had a conference call to sort out which was their hole-in-the-ground and which wasn't, so
gragathaz is off the hook on that point.
Last week, we had a
Thanksgiving Dinner That Couldn't Be Beat at
swinehund and
graydon's. I was going to bring an apple pie, but because I started it too late, I brought beer instead. The pie turned out fine, though I'm still not feeling entirely comfortable with the crusts concept. I'd bought some fixin's the prior week, most of which I then used in a soup on Thursday.
Graydon also turned up at last week's Doctor Who watching, and helped finish up the pie.
I've been rereading the Barry Hughart (Master Li and Number Ten Ox) Omnibus, and I keep getting these strange William Hartnell vibes. Because of the snotty old man and the picaresque adventuring and the mystery and the foreign.
