Oh.Dear.God.

Here's the money quote:

Writing on her web site, Banks said the book was "for all the girls and guys who want a lot more FANTASY in their lives … and some fierceness and magic, romance and mystery, crazy and wild adventures, and yeah, some danger too."

If this is a sample of the writing (yeah, some danger too...) it just goes to show. Talent is no longer necessary. If you are famous or infamous or sleep with somebody who is that's all that's required these days. Because, yanno, people don't actually want to read a *good book*. They just want one with a celebrity as an author.

What's the bet she got a cool million or so for this?

How many advances would that fund for actual - man, this is a NOVEL idea - writers who have been working their tails off for years, sometimes decades, to get a contract for a book...?

Okay, you might say I'm writing this with deepest prejudice, not having any idea about whether Ms Banks can actually string a sentence together in any kind of coherent way, so prejudging is mean and nasty and all that. But seriously people. SERIOUSLY. "Modelland"? For people who want a lot more FANTASY in their lives?...

SERIOUSLY?!
