[A frustrated, enraged scream is heard first--sounding mostly reptillian. Then deep, rasping breaths as Aara tries to calm down.]

This has to stop. These deaths... these attacks, they have to stop!

[A strangled whimper is drawn from Aara's throat.]

What good is this doing us? We could very well be all we have left.

[The blood. The countless, ( Read more... )

[Oh, good. It's her again.]

Are you serious? You think overly dramatic shouting, freaking out on this thing, and ordering the violence to stop is going to do any good?

Heh.

At least someone in this keep has sense.

[He honestly wasn't expecting anyone to actually agree with him, and it takes him a moment before he replies.]

Yeah. From the way some people are acting lately, I was starting to think common sense was one of the first things to go after getting here.

It always is. Soon as the fighting starts, order breaks down.

Nothing anyone says ever changes it.

Sounds like you've got experience with that.

And you're right, it doesn't. But apparently that doesn't stop stupid people from screaming at the general public as if they think they're special enough that their tantrum is going to be what changes it.

Yeah. Too much of it.

[He snorts.] No. It does not. Give them points for effort, but it is wasted effort.

[A desperate cry--half anger half anguish. Not this voice again. Aara hangs her head.]

What do you suggest, then? Do you see anyone else with any hope of stopping this...this...

[Defeat. Why could no one understand? Aara didn't realize hot tears were silently trekking down her pale face.]

What am I supposed to do? I have never been surrounded by so much anger and hate. How does one live with it?

On the off chance that you'll actually listen to me this time?

[Which is unlikely, but Derek'll give it a shot.]

I suggest growing up and dealing with it. Violence is always going to happen. You can't stop it. You just have to protect the people who're yours the best you can - or let other people protect you, the best they can - and deal with it as it comes. And if you fail, you try harder. Learn from what happened.

[Not that he's speaking from experience or anything.]

Crying and throwing temper tantrums over these journals, demanding people stop what they're doing because you don't like it, is never going to help.

[Aara tenses at that, greatly displeased, but she listens all the same.]

So violence is a part of life we must deal with and accept? Dismiss?

Try harder...

[Her words were whispered. Then she tenses again.]

I was not aware I was throwing a tantrum. Believe me when I said that was not what I wished, or had in mind.

[She's silent for a bit, trying to control her anger and fear and vulnerability. She breathes slowly, blinking against the forming of tears from the rawness she felt.]

How is it some can be so strong when it comes to inner battles I apparently know nothing about?

Yes.

[It's blunt and to the point, but it's true. Violence is every where, and here is no exception. The sooner she deals with that, the sooner she can stop whining to everyone.]

Well, you're aware now. So think about that next time you decide to stamp your foot and make demands.

[He snorts at her question. Of course she knows nothing about it.]

Because some of us have had to deal with them for most of our lives.
