Five Musicals Never Produced in New Burbage, by
petronelle. Slings & Arrows, gen. Does exactly what it says on the tin. NB that I want to see pretty much every one of them.
If the stage were to open and suck in the entire chorus, feathers and all, only their families would regret the loss. The dancing is well-executed but distracting, and with the libretto, the overall effect is of a soliloquy with swirling psychedelic lighting effects. We were all attempting to forget that stab at Hamlet, Mr. Nichols; kindly refrain from reminding us anew.
The thing about Slings & Arrows is that I feel that the small number of episodes was nevertheless satisfying -- the character arcs were well-done and came to good and fulfilling ends. So it's not that I really feel like there needs to be more episodes, as much as I adore the show. However, the thing I want more of is the theater stuff -- I mean, obviously you cannot do a show that's entirely hanging out in the rehearsal room. But it is so much fun! And you can do it in fic, so that's the kind of S&A fic I love, and this is a fine and shining example thereof.
