him in the clouds by cesario. Doctor Who, R, Master/Jenny, Master/Doctor. Contains subtextual incest. Also contains spoilers for "The Doctor's Daughter," if you haven't seen it. Fantastically creepy, with terrifically spare prose.
So she tilts her head back and wraps her arms around his neck, and for just a second he resists, holds her at a distance.
"This isn't what I..." he says. Then the uncertainty in his eyes gives way to something else, something bright and cold, like the sheen of ice over water, and he says, "but why not?"
Later, she will remember that he hesitated. It will help.
Mad for Water by gileonnen. Shakespeare Othello, PG-13, vaguely Othello/Iago (I think it works whether you read it as slashy or not). Gil does a terrific job getting at the play's anxieties: Othello is very much a tragedy of otherness, Othello's downfall brought about by his internalization of Venetian prejudices, and this fic does a good subtle job unpacking that.
He is sweating heavily, but he will not strip past the waist even for the coolness of water. In the land of the Turks, a man can't show himself circumcised even if it was before he could remember, before he could protest--not even with the murky water to hide it. Especially not when Iago is watching with his cool eyes, pale and blue against his sunburn.
Once the grime has washed clear and the water has grown filthy, he orders the men out. They head upstream to fill sacks, casks, lips with water for the march. Othello ducks to drink, bringing water up to his lips with his eyes scanning, scanning the horizon. He has learned in church that God chose his soldiers once by how they drank, and he cannot stop at a stream now without thinking of God's fine insight. Men who put their faces to the water are only dogs.
