in which Our Heroine is a carnal book-lover

Someone on my flist was talking about marginalia and I am sort of bored.

Anyway, I happened across this note I'd made yesterday and am now highly annoyed because I cannot read what exactly it says in the right-hand margin, yet I suspect it is rather clever. There is one word which is completely illegible and it seems rather important.

Mostly though I am weirdly fascinated by the marginalia in my own books and I do not know why. I mean, it is really neat to have a history of one's own reading experience: if you look at the following example, all of the different sets of colors are from different reads and they all have different foci, and I like being able to trace how my thinking about a particular text developed.

I cannot help but feel, though, that I am incredibly wanky to be so interested in my own notes. It seems like completely uncalled-for navel-gazing. Which, of course, is why I'm posting to livejournal about it. ;)

(In the second example, one of the notes in green, though you can't really read it at this resolution, says "brain/soul OTP!")

marginalia, lea's compulsive ricardianism, theory, navel-gazing, booksluttery
