Okay, so here it is. I have been geeking out about going to see this production for ages and ages (I found a post from a year ago a while back where I squeed about it, having seen the CST 2005-06 schedule), and I am probably just going to ramble a lot because I both loved it and had some things I have quibbles with, which is an inducement to ( Read more... )

I know I digress, but I just went back to see which Julius Caesar you saw.

Happens it was directed by one of my best friends, Joe Discher! He traveled out there at the invitation of the St Louis theater. :)

While the costuming was unfortunate, the Welsh dialogue was authentic-sounding enough (I don't speak Welsh -- I would love to learn -- but I've heard enough of it to tell) and the song was quite lovely. :)

Thanks, I really enjoyed reading this. I could almost see Hal and Henry getting into a bit of a tussle with all the airpunching and shoving going on!

The thing that I love about your theater reviews is how intelligent they are -- I tend not to be able to think that effectively about anything theatrical, though it's truer of dance than theater.

Also, they always make me want to go familiarize myself with whatever it is you're talking about, because I rarely do know. (And, of course, my having made that admission will hopefully help you to realize the true fascination of your reviews, because if I read that much without any context and still have a fabulous time doing it, then...)

So yay, and much lurve if that wasn't clear. ^^

Thank you! That is a wonderful compliment. Believe it or not, I have a hard time thinking effectively about theater, too, especially when I liked it (when it's something I didn't like, it's easier because I haven't been emotionally engaged beyond "GAH, STOP NOW") -- it's a bit of a struggle to sort through the "guh, that was brilliant" and "mmmmm, Prince Hal in leather pants" to say anything substantial. ;)

And you should definitely get to know the Henry IVs, because they are just amazing. :D
