It's time for some filk!

Nov 16, 2003 01:07

Here's a Very Special Preview of the WIP filk project I've got going on. As noted before, it's as messed up as its concept sounds. The next installment will be...erm, whenever. I'm having a hard time with the song that follows the last one here.

And, of course, this has many SPOILERS for LotR; if you've seen/read Fellowship you should be okay. Of course, some of the song titles have very vague ones, but probably not bad enough to cause problems.

Two comments: (1) Stage directions are spotty and inconsistent. (2) Yes, I know the third number sucks. It's largely expository. ;)

FRODO
A really twisted filk extravaganza based on the Who's Tommy

With apologies to J.R.R. Tolkien and the Who
And also some apologies to Steve MacDonald, whose "Harry" was more or less the inspiration for this version (read: I ripped off his idea, because "Frodo Baggins" scans to "Tommy Walker" as well as "Harry Potter" does ;))
Still more apologies to everyone who reads this! ;)

1. OVERTURE

[instrumental]

GALADRIEL (in voice-over):
Dark Lord Sauron forged One Ring,
He sought to rule each living thing.
Isildur took it but was killed in flight;
For untold years it passed from all sight.

[really funky bass bit]

2. IT'S A RING

BILBO (to himself, picking up the ring):
It's a ring, Bilbo Baggins, it's a ring!
It's a ring, Bilbo Baggins, it's a ring!

GOLLUM (offstage):
It's gone! It's GONE! IT'S GONE!

3. I'VE GOT A FEELING ABOUT THE RING
Many years later.

GANDALF (aside):
I've got a feeling 'bout the ring --
It shouldn't be trusted.
Especially since magic rings --
Well, it makes me wonder...

BILBO:
Now I think I am old,
Although I don't look it.
I feel as though I'm stretched around
Like bread without much butter

GANDALF:
I have some reason to be overly demanding --
You've got to leave your ring
Like you said -- remember?

BILBO:
What about the ring?
What about the ring?
What about the ring?
It came to me!

GANDALF (BILBO):
You've got to leave it (I want it)
You must reject it (I need it)
You mustn't use it (Why should I never use it)
Never (Ever in my life)
You've got to go (Why should I?)
Though I know it seems strange without any proof

BILBO (GANDALF):
You want to steal it (Don't want it)
You want to swipe it (Won't touch it)
You want to take it, (I won't take it)
Not forsaking it (I'm forsaking it)
You won't say nothing to no one (Don't make me angry)
Never been a thief (Never)
And you know it's the truth

BILBO:
I've got a feeling something's wrong
I suddenly felt queer
But now I think I'd be relieved
If it were gone forever

GANDALF:
I've got a feeling you'll be fine
As soon as you leave here
And now I think we'll be relieved
Once it's gone forever

BILBO:
I had no reason to be overly suspicious
But somehow, now it's gone
I can brave bad weather

(turning to leave)

GANDALF:
What about the ring?

(Bilbo sheepishly takes the Ring out of his pocket and drops it on the floor, walking resolutely out the door)

4. FATEFUL JOURNEY

FRODO:
Master of Bag End,
I'm in a quiet and sleepy land
Strange as it seems, the world of my dreams
I don't understand.

Thirty-three,
With thoughts as restless as can be.
Loving life and becoming wise
In simplicity.

The Road goes ever on and on
And who can tell where it will go?
What lies ahead for me now?
Someday I'm going to know.

A strange sense of uneasiness
Creeps up on me.
All at once a grey pilgrim I suddenly see.
He's dressed in a blue hat
And a homely grey gown
And his silver beard flows
Nearly down to the ground.

Burden to bear, miles to go,
Horrors to see.
This small trinket bears the weight
Of my destiny.

The Road goes ever on and on
And who can tell where it will go?
What lies ahead for me now,
And do I want to know?

Samwise is the one who will walk by my side,
And follow my pathway whatever betide.
He is my companion,
He is my friend.
On this fateful journey
We'll go to the end.

5. WRAITHS

[instrumental]

We start out (in the freaky bit at the beginning) with the Nazgul setting out from Barad-dur, then see Frodo and Sam traveling, joined by Merry and Pippin. They encounter a Black Rider on the road, but manage to hide. Finally, their travels take them to an inn in the town of Bree, where they meet a dark, mysterious stranger...

6. THE EYE BEGINS TO STARE (THE RANGER)

STRIDER:
You talk too much, young hobbit
That is no trinket you bear
Yeah, you talk too much, young hobbit
That is no trinket you bear
Every time you put it on you the Eye
Begins to stare

You know, they're riders of the Dark Lord
I can tell by their evil breath
They're riders of the Dark Lord
I can tell by their evil breath
Every time you put it on you you know
You're calling death

I've got the power to guide you
Never fear
Oh, I've got the power to guide you
Never fear
Just a word from your lips and your journey
I can steer

screwy "tommy" filk, filk, tolkien
