Stepping Stones on my Path

My brain works in this way...

I will hear or read a line or a paragraph or a discussion and file it away because I know that I will need it later.  My brain, it knows what I will need, and it keeps just that.

Today I would like to share some of the bits my brain latched on to that have been important to my personal path.

The Quotes... )

Yddrasil is a tree of stories that makes up who we are - all the stories that have been, right back to the roots of the beginning, and all the branches of what-will be....

yes - oh very much yes.

"The secret is waiting and listening" - King Boomie (more or less, although that probably is the quote)

The trick people have taught themselves in the last hundred years is that fiction is different from nonfiction. They're both stories - and they both reveal truths.

just commenting on one piece. I do rather think you're right.

That bit about Yggdrasil, that is beautiful. Thank you.

Very welcome.

I didn't come up with it - it's from the great body of Lore. Either it's in the Elder Eddas or in the pre-Edda skaldic poetry - not sure which. I'm still looking.
It was a great point of enlightenment for me and it's been the heart of my belief for a while now.

Have you encountered Jim Henson's Storyteller?

Well, I'm the naughty heathen for not knowing that.

I remember seeing a bit of The Storyteller when it came out. I can't remember why I didn't see more of it. Possibly the time it was on when it aired. I've been meaning to get hold of it and see more.

I'm a great fan of Henson's work in general.

*hee* well probably fine. I've never met a heathen who -did- know it. I'm more suspecting pre-Eddaic skaldic poetry now - as a lot of it was gathered about a hundred years ago into a series of volumes and I haven't encountered many heathens who've read any of it. I have to find the links but facsimiles of the volumes DO exist online - and are probably in Gutenberg.

FIND IT! It was his final work - he died in the making. It was probably some of his best work. I don't know if he did the Greek ones too, but they're worth it too.
For me, Jim Henson is one of the great Heroes - a Great Maker.

I haven't spoken much about the huge influence the Muppets have had on my life. I know, though, that a lot of people feel that way, especially people of my generation who grew up with the Muppets. Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth...my life is graced at every turn with the work of Jim Henson and the creatures from Jim Henson Studios.

Another important, life influencing quote:
"Be kind to the monsters in your neighborhood." -Sesame Street Monsters
