Kanji's had a crush on Naoto from the start, and it didn't fade in the slightest when he found out she's a girl. They've admitted to mutually liking each other and are now traveling together, and they're trying to set up a date.
Rise:
Rise is one of Kanji's best friends, as well as one of his classmates. He trusts her immensely, to the extent where he's actually told her about his shadow.
Chie:
Kanji's senpai, and a beloved friend and teammate. She's currently holding a magikarp for him.
Yuiko:
Yuiko is now part of Kanji's traveling party, and Kanji has promised to make her a cat doll in exchange for a cell phone charm. He considers her a friend, and worries about her.
Misaki:
SEXUAL CONFUSION BUDDY . . . Ahem. Kanji and Misaki are new friends, but they started off with a rather abrupt heart to heart. Kanji's starting to get quite fond of him- its nice to have a friend who isn't from Inaba.
