As some of you know, I enjoy reading Jane Austen Fanfiction. I used to feel quite abashed about it, but no longer: I'm ready to admit it in public (and even at work). I guess I'm old enough to feel like I don't have to be embarrassed about my reading choices.
For the past few years, my source of fanfiction was an online website/community called "A Happy Assembly." It's a lovely place, really. But perhaps a bit too happy at times [1].
I've created a
Dreamwidth community, where people can post recommendations to fanfiction, post chapters of their own stories (or links to chapters), discuss JAFF, etc. All are welcome to join, and I hope you do:
jaff [1] What I mean is that the moderators are rather strict and very trigger-happy in terms of removing any material that can offend anyone's feelings, be it a reference to a political discussion (meaning two fictional characters having a brief discussion about modern politics) or a reference to another author's fic in a comments' section, or even just a general discussion of fics and some of the common tropes, where some authors may feel that it was their stories that inspired some of the comments. It all creates for a very placid and calm place, where some people feel that their opinions or stories are unwelcome.
