Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 Opinion

Nov 19, 2010 21:52

It's been months since I've posted anything. It's Harry Potter time and I've seen it twice now (yes twice already) and I have definite opinions. I'm hoping that J will post a recap so I can recap her recap like old times but I will tell you some of my disappointments about the movie. LJ changed so I don't know how to do the under the cut anymore ( Read more... )

Hey Twinnie!

I haven't had time to really digest the movie yet. Seeing it once I haven't really been able to pick pieces that I loved or pieces of it I disliked as well as I could after multiple viewings. (It's a hard job, but you gotta do what you gotta do) *laughing*

I will say that one scene I thought they did okay with the "destroying of the locket" scene with Ron and Harry. The visions that Voldermorts soul projected were almost exactly as I had envisioned them. (Except Harry and Hermione were clothed, I mean what's up with that?) It could have been better. I would have liked to see Harry comfort Ron more and show some understanding, but I'll be happy with it because Ron was the hero (as he was in the book) and the movies very rarely show him as anything more than comic relief. And as a Ron fan, I'll take what I can get from the asshat screen writers.

Of course my hatred of Ginny was there from the beginning. The "zip me up" scene actually made me sick. I just truly hate that couple and all Ginny represents. I loved Luna, but wasn't at all happy about the lack of time she got, also where was the scene where Ginny, Neville and Luna broke into the Headmaster's office? Where was the scene were Snape was made Headmaster? Speaking of Neville- his lack of screen time also sucks, but I'm hopeful that will change as the second half moves toward Hogwarts for the big battle.

I'll admit, I teared up when Dobby died. His speech killed me and even though I knew it was coming, like with Hedwig, I was hoping that the death wouldn't happen. BTW: Hedwig didn't die the way the movie showed it. Not that it still wasn't shocking to see Harry's beloved bird die in such a horrible way. Damn death-eaters!

I was okay with the torture scenes being cut short. I really didn't want to hear that or see that for long periods of time. And maybe it's because I love Ron, but I did think he was heartbroken listening to Hermione scream. Once again the time limit made for a lot of cutting room floor material, I believe.

One huge disappointment for me was Bill. He was supposed to be hot- gorgeous- to die for- and well, he wasn't what I thought he should be. Hated that the writers felt the need to have Hermione erase her parents memory. That was for dramatic effect and really wasn't needed. I missed the Dudley conversation too. Obviously that book is full of action and could be made into more than two movies, so I guess we will have to live with the changes and omissions that were made.

All and all, I loved part 1. I can't wait to see how they handle the battle scene at Hogwarts and will Molly actually say "bitch". *laughing*

*hugs*

I'm surprised you liked the locket scene because I felt like they gyped Rupert out of a fantastic opportunity for an emotional scene and stuck a one liner in there. Fell short for me. As for Bill, he wasn't unattractive but I thought his face would be much worse. In the book they made it sound like he was really mauled looking but in the movie he had three skinny scratches. For the most part, what they showed was mostly good but I was disappointed. Most of that disappointment though is that I expected because they were doing two movies, they would have most everything in the movies. They left chunks out :( I'm glad you finally weighed in on it though. I kept thinking I needed to send you a message to find out what you thought but then I'd forget :( So thank you Sissy for letting me know! :) *hugs and love*
