http://angelzfurys.livejournal.com/14332.html Anthony let Jared wait by Jensen’s side for him to wake up after arranging for the next visit Jensen would need and giving him some printed information about how to help Jensen with his pregnancy including a prescription for nausea pills and prenatal vitamins. When Jensen came to he wouldn’t take the sonogram picture Anthony had printed out and just left the office. Jared was growing nervous as Jensen wouldn’t speak on the ride home and when they reached the house he closed himself into the guest bedroom. It hurt that Jensen wouldn’t talk to him but maybe Jensen would need a little space after such shocking news. He was torn on what to do, lave Jensen be or go and try and get him to talk. He paced back and forth between the living room and the outside of the guest bedroom. After what was probably an hour of pacing and no noise from the bedroom Jared decided that he would wait until the evening to let Jensen come to him. After that Jared would talk to him even if he had to do it through the door if Jensen didn’t open up to him.
In the meantime he could try and figure out how it was possible for Jensen to become pregnant. He went to the tiny office space they had set up next to Jared’s in home gym equipment in the second bedroom. Jared supposed that now it would have to be converted into a nursery. Firing up the computer he opened word and the internet. First he composed a list of facts about him and Jensen that might lead to an answer or what would help him in his search for answers.
Jensen-human, male, purest family upbringing, parents alive, grandparents alive, no Weres known on both sides of lineage. Pregnant.
Jared-Weredragon, Weredragon family, parents alive, grandparents alive.
Weredragons are a declining race, not easy to have offspring, Weredragon gene a recessive gene, have mates, two Weredragons needed to have offspring, male Weredragons can become pregnant.
The list was very short and cleared nothing up but might give him some help in his internet search. He opened up the search engine and tried pregnant male first. He frowned at the number of results and began clicking away only to stop fifteen minutes in. Everything he saw was on female to male transgenders having babies or fanfiction to the odd internet self published novel. Which just solidified the fact that human males couldn’t have babies. Yet Jensen was human and he was most definitely pregnant, he had the sonogram picture to prove it having taken it when Jensen hadn’t. He tried pregnant male Weredragons next. There were a lot less results and after much browsing found most of the information was discussion threads about past male Weredragons who were said to be pregnant, pages set up by cryptologists or people posting rare pictures of pregnant Weredragons or interviews with people who had bumped into one. Also more fanfiction. There was one page that had a link to the Mayo Clinic Medical Journal that had an article on Weredragon pregnancies but it was just a general gloss over and only had a brief mention of male Weredragon pregnancy. That got him thinking though about his next search.
There weren’t many medical magazines or books for or about Weres but there were some and that is where Jared found his first clue. It took him till nearly dinner time to find it but when he did he about fell off the chair he sat up so straight on its edge. The journal was old and he’d had to pay for the website it was hosted on just to see it but it would be worth it in the end he figured. The article in question was long and had been written before Jensen was even born. The authors, a Weredragon named Stephen Skyburge and a human named Matthew Weller had teamed up to try and trace back Weredragon lineage and figure out why the population was declining and what could be done about it for future generations. Through their research they had included genetic testing as much as it was possible at the time to add to interviews, medical history of test subjects, anatomy, and patterns. All were presented then discussed from all angles by both men. The interesting fact he gained from all this was that a long time ago there had been the possibility to have hybrid children, the results between Weredragons and humans.
Somehow female humans who had mated with Weredragons had conceived children by them. The children had been deformed and birthing them was so hard that most mothers died in childbirth. The children were both human and dragon and didn’t exist as solely one or the other. Most were killed off or simply never written about so their fate was unknown. Then at some point in time the ability for human females to conceive these hybrid children stopped. Weredragon females never conceived children by human males. It was a theory of Skyburge and Weller that some of these hybrid children had had children and so on and so forth but it was never known. There was no test at the time to screen for the recessive gene even in Weredragons let alone humans. Their thought was that if they could find the gene they could through medical advances make it more prominent or match up breeding pairs with the best possible chances of producing offspring. There was no follow up article, and after checking found that Weller was dead and Skyburge was in a nursing home with dementia.
He printed out the article and made a note to call Anthony about it the next day, as for now he had to go check on Jensen. It appeared that Jensen had yet to come out of the guestroom and Jared frowned at the thought that Jensen hadn’t had any lunch. Deciding that he could wait just a little longer to confront Jensen and that if he came with food things would hopefully go much smoother he went to the kitchen. Jared wasn’t the best cook but he could make a few dishes and whatever came out of a box. But what could he make now that Jensen could eat with being sick and would be healthy for the baby? Spying the packet of information Anthony had given him at the office he grabbed it and leafed through the pages. Sure enough there was a list of the best foods for pregnancy and what foods to avoid. He decided on chicken and rice and worked to mix up the meal before putting it on a tray with some apple juice he found in the fridge. He would have liked if Jensen had the prenatal vitamins but he hadn’t stopped to fill the prescription on the way home.
Knocking on the door of the guestroom and waiting he heard movement but no answer so he knocked again. He wasn’t leaving without knowing that even if Jensen didn’t want to talk to him he’d get food and if he kept knocking Jensen would get annoyed and answer the door.
“What do you want Jared?” Jensen answered the second knock but didn’t open the door. From the sound of it he wasn’t even close to the door.
“I made dinner” Jared decided that announcing that they needed to talk would not get Jensen to open the door. And he was right as a few moments later the door cracked open and Jensen looked out at him. Jared guessed he must have been sleeping most of the time since they got home as Jensen’s hair was sticking up on one side and he had pillow creases on his face and his cloths were rumpled. Apparently he passed inspection as Jensen opened the door wider and let him in before walking back over to the bed. Setting the tray down on the bedside table he sat on the floor, he did not want to intimidate Jensen by looming over him and he wasn’t sure he’d be allowed on the bed right now. He waited while Jensen started eating getting in half before starting in on talking. “How are you feeling?”
Jensen glared at him for a moment “I’m pregnant you jerk.” Jensen sounded angry which wasn’t unexpected and a little scared but he did acknowledge his condition so he wasn’t in denial.
“Yes you are pregnant” Jared reinforced noting that Jensen’s hands were gripping the bowl of food so tight his knuckles were white. He hoped Jensen wasn’t going to have a meltdown or blow up but either would be preferable to Jensen shutting down like he had mildly done so far.
“But that should be impossible I can’t be pregnant.” Now Jensen looked pleading which was at odds with his angry words.
“But you are pregnant” Jared kept on as he took the bowl from Jensen so it wouldn’t break in his grip. “I know it’s hard to believe but it is true. This is a good thing Jensen, we are getting a gift, a family.” Jared wanted Jensen to see the baby as the miracle it was. They were mates and they would get a family of their own. So far in the US adoption by a human/Were couple hadn’t happened. It wasn’t illegal but it sure wasn’t looked at as a good thing, and no couple that had tried (not that there had been that many) were approved.
“Why couldn’t you be pregnant?” Now Jensen sounded petulant but still scared.
“Because I don’t bottom that much and we have been using protection” Jared moved closer to Jensen as Jensen sagged. It was true that while Jensen was almost always the bottom they had switched from time to time. Also true that besides the time when they forgot protection when breaking the new house in they had always used a condom even after having been together so long.
“But I’m human and a man,” Jensen tried a new tactic his voice becoming softer and sounding unsure.
“Yes you are a man, and as for human that may be true but I think I may have an answer about that.” Jared had put the papers he’d printed and put in his pocket on his way down to make dinner and pulled them out now handing them over to Jensen who took them reluctantly and didn’t look at them. “First I should start that male Weredragons can get pregnant. It’s not a common thing but it can happen. Second the Weredragon gene is a recessive one but that still factors in because it won’t go away it’s just not as easy to appear. And last is what’s in the article,” Jared scooted right up to Jensen’s legs and looked up into his face as he spoke. “Apparently at one time there were some hybrid children and if they lived and had children the Weredragon gene may be present in some of the human population.”
The papers crumpled in Jensen’s hands as he tried to curl them into fists “But I come from a purest family there is no way any of my relatives would have…would be…it’s impossible.” Jensen was shaking his head and still crumpling the papers. “They would have said something, especially after I told them about you.”
“They might not know, the hybrids were around a very long time ago and people kept it secret even back then. I don’t think you family has been purests that long and if they have for some reason not everyone can know their complete history from that long ago I’m sure.” Jared reached out to take the papers from Jensen and place a hand over one of his to help calm him.
Jensen did calm a little but took his hand out from Jared’s and turned away from Jared a bit “thanks for dinner but I need to think a bit.”
Jared knew he was being told to go and it hurt but he had just given Jensen a lot to think about and they hadn’t really argued. He would have loved to stay but he knew that it wouldn’t get him anywhere. Jensen could be stubborn when he wanted and it would only upset him more if Jared stayed and continued to push him. “There’s more chicken and rice in the kitchen, I’ll put it in the fridge for you later if you don’t want more now.”
Jensen shook his head but wouldn’t look at Jared as Jared got up and left the room leaving Jensen the half eaten bowl and closed the door behind him. Jared got his own dinner and ate at the kitchen table in silence before going up to their room. He didn’t think Jensen would be up to sleep with him that night but he was hopeful and left the door open. He tossed and turned for a while before he finally fell asleep.
When Jared woke up in the morning and went to check on Jensen the guestroom door was still firmly closed. Jared went about making breakfast which was eggs and toast hoping that the toast would help cushion the eggs and Jensen would throw it up later. Jensen hadn’t brought the tray out of the guestroom so Jared had to carry the plate to the door. He knocked twice with no answer before opening the door just a bit to see if maybe Jensen was still asleep or in the bathroom. He nearly dropped the plate when he realized that Jensen wasn’t in either room and Jared hadn’t seen him in any of the other rooms so far. Rushing back to the kitchen and setting down the plate he went to the front door and checked the driveway to see their car missing. Jensen was gone.
Jensen felt bad about leaving the house without telling Jared but there was just something he had to do and he had to do it himself. He had his phone with him but it was currently turned off. He didn’t want to get a call from Jared and explain himself right now, it might make him stop and he couldn’t do that. Plus if Jared couldn’t reach him his friends couldn’t either and he had no doubt that Jared would enlist their help in trying to call him or track him down. Jared’s best friend Chad he wouldn’t answer for unless it was an emergency or something but he would be tempted to answer for his best friend Chris. If he answered Chris or heaven forbid Chad he was sure that he would let the beans spill about being pregnant and he wasn’t ready to do that. He wasn’t really sure he wanted to tell anyone at all for that matter. He’d been thinking nonstop since yesterday morning about it.
He knew that Jared would be angry with his thinking but he saw himself as a freak right now. He was a man and he was a human and he was pregnant. After Jared’s revelation that if for some reason he had some kind of rare random gene that made him not completely human (and wasn’t that something else to think about) he was still a pregnant male. Jared had told him that male dragons could get pregnant but again it wasn’t common and with the population in decline he hadn’t heard about one, not that he was really paying attention. It would be somewhat big news if so and that was a can of worms that Jensen didn’t want to see opened if anyone found out he was pregnant. Which was bound to happen anyway, it’s not like he could hide in the house until the baby was born. Even after it was born there would be questions like were had the baby come from? The scariest part for him at the moment however wasn’t someone finding out it was about the baby. What kind of baby would it be? Would it be human?
He wasn’t even sure yet if the baby would be able to grow to term and how he would actually have it. He knew how far along he was and Jared’s doctor Anthony had said that it was alive yesterday. Could his body support a baby to term? Anthony hadn’t said anything about that but then again he’s been out of it for pretty much most of the visit. He knew that he would be going back and seeing Anthony again so he could ask. But there might not be any answers, this was something new and unheard of. He was the first and he wasn’t sure how he felt about that, or even the baby really. That scared him a bit as well, that as of right now he wasn’t sure what he felt about the baby. He kept thinking about gestating it or somehow getting rid of it or it not happening but nothing felt right and nothing felt wrong. He was numb to that point.
What he could focus on was information. He had seen the crinkled printed pages Jared had tried to get him to see during dinner on the kitchen table when he’d gone out in the middle of the night looking for more juice. He’d read them and the pages of information also left on the table that Anthony must have given Jared. Adhering to the medical advice from the doctor would be easy enough and there was some good things in there but nothing to help solve how he was feeling or how this had happened. The papers Jared had found were helpful and he couldn’t stop thinking about how horrible a time it was for the hybrids and their parents. What had happened to those hybrids weighed on his mind too. He wasn’t super judgmental and tried his best not to be at all but he could help think how awkward it would have been for them to have children of their own. Weren’t most hybrids sterile anyway? Somehow they must have managed and the gene was passed on. If it was he needed to know if he had it and besides down right testing for it, and he wasn’t sure it could be done, the only people who would know would be his family.
His family was a sore spot for him and any topic including them he tried to shut down as soon as it was brought up. His life had started out pretty easy until right before puberty. His family being purests had as little to do with Weres in general as possible. He was homeschooled for a while before going to a private school that didn’t have any Weres. The trouble came when he noticed he liked boys more then he liked girls in middle school and made comments about it to his family. They had taken to limiting his friends and arranging playdates where there would be more girls than boys present. It hadn’t worked and by puberty he was hiding it from his family no longer saying anything about his feelings. It didn’t come up again till high school when his parents caught him on a date with a boy classmate. They decided that if they didn’t talk about it and looked the other way and tried to set him up with girls that they could stand him. As soon as he could when he turned eighteen he moved out and in with his best friend from childhood Chris and his parents who were much better to Jensen then his own.
When Jensen had gone to college he’d met Jared and they had hit it off right away. Jared however had forgot to mention that he was a Were. Jensen had never been like his parents in his opinion of Weres. He couldn’t see them as bad, just people who were a little different. He had never told his parents his opinions on Weres and kept his mouth shut when they talked about it. When he finally decided that he would take Jared to meet his parents it all exploded. His parents weren’t happy to meet Jared but hadn’t been horrible to him. It was during dinner that his father had started in on Weres, he didn’t even remember what the exact topic about them was this time as he was so used to tuning out when the topic came up. He sure did notice however when Jared became angry and stood up knocking his chair over and pushing the table so far forward it almost knocked his parents over on the other side. Jared had accused his parents of being xenophobes and stating that he was a Weredragon. His father had stood up by then ordering Jared out of the house and his mother was yelling at him, asking how he could do this to them bringing a Were into their house. By the time he could process what was going on Jared and his father looked like they were about to come to physical blows and his mother was having a meltdown. He had to use all his strength to get Jared to move towards the door before Jared turned himself to stalk out it nearly pulling Jensen along with him. But he had stopped at the threshold when his father had yelled at him. His father gave him the ultimatum, go with Jared and not come back or stay and they would help him get himself together and back to being right. Jensen had left.
But what his parents didn’t know was that he hadn’t gone with Jared. Instead he went to Chris as his world fell apart. He couldn’t go home and his parents didn’t want anything to do with him, or at least that was what his sister said when she had called him late that night in tears. He was so angry with Jared about not telling him he was a Were he wasn’t sure what to do with him. In the end he holed up with Chris for two weeks until Jared’s best friend Chad tracked him down and talked with him. He hadn’t taken Jared back immediately but they had started up again slowly and almost from scratch. They both had apologies as yes Jared hadn’t told Jensen he was a Were but Jensen had glossed over just how bad his parents opinions were on Weres.
His parents lived quite a distance away and his grandparents lived a short distance from his parents. That was one thing about purests that was in their favor in his mind. They tended to live close together in communities so they had others like them to talk to and they could keep the Weres away from them. Jensen knew that by the time he got to his parents’ home his mother would most likely be there and possibly his grandmother. His father would be home from work not long after and his grandfather was only a short distance away no doubt at their home. He would make sure it was a full house when he confronted them about what he knew. He wouldn’t tell them about being pregnant unless it was the only way to get the answers he needed and he wasn’t sure that sharing that with them would get him the answers. He had come up with a plan of sorts and he hoped it would be enough. Given how much his parents hated Jared and what he was and what Jensen himself was for being with Jared he hoped to play on their hate, and their belief that they could turn him against all that and become what they were.
When he pulled into the driveway of his old home he turned on his phone for the briefest moment. There were fifteen new voicemails and no less the twenty-five texts. He turned the phone back off and took some calming breaths as his nerves were making him a little nauseous. Climbing out of the car he stood up talk and walked to the door ringing the bell. It didn’t take long before the door opened and his mother was before him. “Hello Mother” he greeted “we need to talk.”
