So after having gone through my photos and made notes of just about everything I could remember, I'm now attempting to organize it all into some sort of coherent report on the weekend. Here goes:
After having spent the two previous days crashing with my sister
et_muse , we arrived in Northampton on the Friday morning by bus. And promptly got very confused and rather lost attempting to discover exactly how to get out of the bus station. Luckily, after much wandering back and forth and general head scratching, we met up with Caz outside Boots and she walked us to the Ibis. Check in wasn't open yet so we went to her room and within minutes were laughing and chatting like we'd known each other for years. *Sends huggles and love to Caz*
Eventually, after Muse and I had checked in, the three of us headed over the the Park Inn and sat in the bar. We BECAME the LJ meetup, us people filtered in and asked 'are you the lj people'. All three of us were quite amused at the idea of actually being PEOPLE.
Pretty quickly the LJ meet managed to co-opt just about every chair and a good few number of tables from around the bar. And when
laligin and the Janto!bears arrived, along with Owen!bear, Diane!bear and, at one point, Myfanwy well...lets just say there was much arranging amusement!
Then registration queueing began, and conversation turned to Northampton itself, as everyone shared the trials and tribulations of getting there. It was quickly decided that obviously Northampton sits on a rift in time and space; the centre of which is right underneath the bus station; and thus its very easy to get lost there. After all, Northampton is, apparently, a place to which Fed-Ex will not guarantee next-day delivery.
Upon picking up our registration packs and discovering Harwoods Haulage badges, a weekend theme was quickly developed. Shouting, at random intervals, "YOU WON'T BE SORRY WITH A HARWOODS LORRY! HARWOODS!!!'. Even, on occasion, when we were out in the 'real' parts of the town, which will undoubtedly have drawn strange looks!
This was also the point of the weekend where I met Sparks and Emma for the first time. *sends huggles their ways* Love you girlies. We went shopping for food and other supplies in Sommerfields, picking up the badges we ended up wearing all weekend - more on this in my Saturday Report.
The Opening Ceremony was rather short, as by this point only Gareth and Kai had arrived. The main topic of conversation seemed to be 'what they were doing about the Rugby the next day.'
The party Friday night was Turn of the Century themed, and whilst I love my very pretty Victorian dress, attempting any sort of dancing in it was a real effort. I managed however, at least for a bit. I had great fun dancing about like a nutter with
pinkfairy727. Eventually however, we retired off to bed, in full knowledge that Saturday was going to be nuts. It was.
