Epik High 5 - Pieces, Part One
(When did they come up with a fifth album...?) I can never believe that Tablo is older than MitraJin. I mean, if you look at them... It just doesn't seem that way, doesn't it?
I still haven't been able to decide/find out if Part One has to do with their title song, One, or the fact that there'll be a Part Two. Well, the latter could be the case. They did have a Repackage album before.
Epik High 5
1. Be
Scary...mmm... with dolls... yea... But it is slightly pretty...
2. Breakdown
First Impression: Is it just me or does it remind of the 90s? Not saying that's a bad thing, of course.
Repeated listens: After listening a few times, you do start to appreciate the beat. It's catchy and 'head-boppin'. Hehheh.
Skipping the short pieces though #3 is SCARY with the crying voice T___T Actually the title reminds me of a Haruki Murakami book (After Dark) I've (not really) been reading on and off.
4. One [Feat. 지선]
First Impression: Love the instrumentals, but what's with the 'time is ticking'? It doesn't fit the song, I think... I mean, what does time have to do with it? But, what a great beat and tempo. I love how it's fast and the feature is amazing, too. My favorite part would definitely be the chorus where it goes,
You are the one, 넌 나의 구원
The melody and the beat match so perfectly in this song.
Repeated listens: You get used to the 'Time is ticking's, though I still don't know where it's coming from. I saw the MV recently (was trying to find the lyrics on their official site but ended up watching the MV) and it is FREAKY! What are they supposed to be? 사신(死神)? Are they rewinding time... forward? But if they say time is ticking it seems it's coming to an end, not a new chance...
If you close your eyes and simply listen, you can feel the painful lyrics.
5. 연필깎이 [Feat. Kebee]
Nice steady beat. For some reason the beginning of the song reminds me slightly of Eminem. (Sorry >_>) Don't really like the melody part, though.
6. Girl [Feat. 진보]
OKAY. I'm completely against anything goes 'girl'. It sounds like an R&B song, not Epik High! And then it keeps repeating the 'girl'! If I wanted to listen to a typical R&B song, I'd go listen to a typical R&B song.
8. The Future [Feat. Yankie]
I like the beginning well enough. Sounds nice and fast xD~ But mm, was Epik High always profane like this? Don't like the chorus, either... (I say that a lot, huh? I usually LIKE the chorus, too!...)
10. Ignition [Feat. 나윤권]
Sounds promising! I like the Feat., too. It has a sad melody, which definitely fits the weather (it has been raining all day).
한쪽 눈을 좀 더 크게 뜨기 위해 한쪽 눈을 감아버린 세나클
is a nice line, even if I don't know what the last word means...
11. Eight by Eight
Aah, not my style of rap. Sorry, I am only into soft core (if that could be considered a genre) rap, so you'll have to listen to this on your own to make up your mind.
12. Decalcomanie [Feat. Dynamic Duo, Dok2, Double K, TBNY]
Like the BG melody here. I don't think it is a harp, but it slightly sounds like the plucking of one - probably the scales - doesn't it? A slightly ethereal feel with some down to earth tempo. The light BG does make a nice contrast. I especially like the end. (The BG harp noise is probably an analog electronica sound, isn't it?)
No short pieces, but track 13 is especially ethereal. Maybe that's why it's called Icarus Walks.
14. 낙화 (落花)
Ooooh, creepy BG music. Then it turns into... what should I call this? A slightly trance-y feel with that girl voice? It's an interesting mix.
15. 우산 [Feat. 윤하]
윤하! Great Feat.! Though it could be considered that Epik High is the Feat... Though admittedly the melody isn't that interesting after it is repeated that often. =X
16. 당신의 조각들 [Feat. 지선]
First Impression: Kind of psychedelic, but wow. I love 지선's voice. When the chorus starts, the melody is just so pretty. I actually started humming it a few hours later without knowing where it had come from.
Repeated listens: After listening to it on repeat, it sounds like MC Sniper (I think it's MithraJin's part). Is that just me? Actually, people do say that I think too many things are similar... T__T (even though that's usually with clothes). It sounds so sad (and slightly depressing) for a romantic song. Though what IS that noise at the end? It sounds like ... 아빠사마.
지선's part in the song is just too beautiful. It's so clear and ... pristine sounding. xD The instrumental section near the end is beautiful as well. (It must be the strings - I love strings.)

Mmm, the profanity. Was Tablo always like this? Good beat and melody though.
18. One [Planet Shiver Remix]
First Impression: Some interesting melodies. It's worth a listen. And it gets better at the 2 minute mark. It gets very techno/trance-y. (Eurobeat? I can never tell the different genres T__T) The beginning was too slow to get to the good part. xD
Repeated listens: Now that I know the good part starts after the 2 minute mark, it's a really nice version to listen to. No more 'Time is tickin', too.
