Epic Holiday - Day 8 (The trip to Sydney)

Apr 21, 2009 20:21

Day Eight.

When my alarm went off at 4.30am? I realised I had gotten wayyyy too little sleep, but hey, the roadtrip to the boys was here, so who was I to complain??  We got ourselves organised and packed, piling into the car after a quick chance to get a photo or too to document this epic event before we were on the road. Once we got out of Melbourne, I started filming random sections of the road with my camera, especially as the sun came up.

The music was cranked nice and loud and we were all singing along with the stereo as we drove. It was so awesome to sit back and realise I was actually driving through countryside I hadn't seen before, but at the same time cause it was Aussie, was still familiar. The biggest thing that struck me, was how hilly it is through Victoria and NSW. I'm so used to the relative flatness of the WA coast. It was soooo cool to pass all these town names that I have heard over the years but never seen in person. We drove past Glenrowan and passed over the Murray River and crossing into NSW was exciting....until we hit the roadworks. LOL That got old REAL fast.

We stopped at Woomargama for a break and I took some snaps there. Then we headed off again and as we left town, I spied a house with an inverted cross on the front of thier shed. In bright red paint! I made a note to get some shots of it when we came back through.

At one point, we came close (A little too close) to getting intimate with the back end of a car and had to lock up the brakes, smoke and all from the tyres. But kudos to Tara for her skills in avoiding that happening!! I know I wouldn't have been able to.

For the most part, NSW is actually a really boring state. LOL Very dry and nothing really stands out...although stopping at Gundagai was a kick for me, cause of the song. Especially stopping at the Dog On The Tuckerbox roadhouse....which is a near a aussie icon (it's named after it, Google it)  While we were there, we got a phonecall and discovered that Deb had left her mobile in Woomagarma when some guy called us on it to say he had found it. It was too far to go back for it, so we asked them to hold it at the local store until we came back through again.  Tara nearly left her purse sitting on the bonnet of the car, but I'd already grabbed it, cause I was determined to be a good luck charm for this trip!! lol

We finally got back on the road and the closer to Sydney we got, the more the trip seemed to drag out....as it always does. We were getting tired and fed up of being behind the wheel...the scenery wasn't interesting at all.

But finally! We reached Sydney and man, I thought Perth was bad for traffic?? I'll never bag Perth again...Sydney was horrible. Confusing roads, toll booths, too much traffic.....we ended up getting lost cause Google Maps lied to us. It was pretty cool seeing Sydney airport...and we drove through a tunnel under the harbour, which was freaky...but cool at the same time. I got it all on camera, which I plan on making into a vid soon.

After a stop off at a service station for directions and some help from my nephew Marc over the phone (he's a Sydney-sider) we managed to get ourselves to our hotel at last! It was quite nice and I had a complete fangirl moment to realise that we were just down the road from NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art), where aussie actors study thier art.

The moment we arrived, a few other fans who were staying at the motel called out to us from thier balcony, trying to find out who LovinJackon was....Tara was famous!! LOL I've insisted she sign something for Phill now. LOL

We settled into our room and then after a little while to settle in and really digest the fact we were there and that we would be meeting the boys the next morning, it was time to get ready for dinner with the other fangirls who had come up for the Con. It was so cool to have dinner with a bunch of people who really got you and knew what language you were speaking. Dinner was nice....I have become a right little addict for chinese food lately...combination omeletes in particular.  So when I got one that covered my plate? I was downright happy! LOL

The dinner went off without a hitch, although at one point when Deb was asked to explain basically why John Winchester was a bad father, I was expecting there to be a full on argument. LOL But disaster was averted due to Deb being extremely diplomatic in her defence of her man...and I give her full kudos for that.

After dinner, we headed back upstairs and went back to the rooms, where we discussed the show, the boys, all things Supernatural. It was just so much fan chatting with fans I had never met and that totally understood even the littlest indiosincrises of what this fandom was to me.

Finally, we crawled back to our own room where we ended up giggling like school kids on camp until we finally fell asleep. It was silly as hell, but oh so much fun already.....and that was before the best day ever.

Meeting the Boys....
